After All - piano solo
Nothing spectacular here...I just liked the riff that accidentally happened and then I had to finish it. I can't record much these days (or play instruments) because my shoulder hurts so much from using the mouse and practicing. I'm really, really, really hoping it's not permanent. (any suggestions are welcome) Anyway, here 'tis. Comments and crits welcome. Warning...it may put you to sleep... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=789731&songID=11954134

Janet, you caught me right in front of the songs forum and in the studio and ready to catch this beautiful piece. What happened at 1:10? It was unexpected, so beautiful, it lifted the piece up wonderfully. I am so amazed by your skill. Always envious, always awed. At moments.... the dynamics are so firm, almost harsh, suddenly they give way to such gentle beauty. I so enjoyed listening. Please do take care of that shoulder problem and try to use any possible ergonomic relief. You are so blessed, so gifted, so talented! Your final notes on this are beyond words. To anyone who does not hear this lovely piece? They do not know what they missed. You simply must continue. Thank you for this marvelous gift, a treat to the ears! - John

HI Janet I love this music your playing and you play it so well . Sorry to hear about your shoulder , I had the same thing happen to my thumb and ended up seeing a doctor along with some painfull shots in my thumb . I think most of it was created by too much keyboard playing , over playing and since then I have slowed down so that doesn't happen again . Take care of yourself your a great piano player , we need to hear more songs from you . James

beautiful piece Janet, and played very well as always; i'm with John, when you put in a different chord around 1'10 i thought it was going to go off in another key/mood which would have been cool too.

Thank you, John. Your eloquence encourages me that maybe I should keep on composing. :) What happened at 1:10? Well, I had to go back and listen. I think that was my attempt at getting out of my chord box and throwing in something different. Thank you again. You're very kind. Thanks for the good ideas, Robby. I think all of those should help. I believe it started with a pinched nerve when we were building the house (too much sanding two days in a row), which may or may not complicate things. My physical therapist can get it fixed in about 5 visits, but every time I try to practice a serious piano piece, it's messed up again. But I haven't given up quite yet! I had a lower back problem that finally healed itself about 8 years....8 years of lots of stretching! Thank you, Frank! Thank you too, James! Thank you Tom. Yeah, I wanted to vary the feel a bit. It was a bear to get the velocities under control cause I guess I play a LOT harder than it sounds like here. lol Thank you, Mark. Like I told John, I had to go back and hear what you were talking about. And now it finally came to me...THAT would have been a perfect place for a key change! lol Duh... Maybe I'll see if I can work that in toward the end when I actually did change keys. Anyway, thanks again. :)

I love this ... piano just by itself....such a beautiful instrument. Throwing in a Bb chord to the key of C..... where in the world did you learn such a thing as that? Nice key change at the end, people have forgotten how well that works in music today.

"Nothing spectacular here..." I got to disagree! I picked up the acoustic and played through it. I like how you slow the song down. Also love how you go to the Bm at the end and cycle through G A Bm. Great dynamics and feeling throughout the song. Great arrangement too. You have talent. would love to hear more.

That is a great piece. I thoroughly enjoyed the laid back feel. The chord progression and melody are very relaxing, but yet there are some elements that get your attention. I especially like the change-up around 2:50-3:00.

I liked it a lot. It's got a very different melody to it. There were some parts that really stood out. Wish I could play like this. :)

Nice song, sounds good. Mouse should not bother you if you do not play computer games. Probably just a bug going around, but always can go see a chiropractor, might be something just a little off and it will make a difference. Did I say it was a nice song, and sounded good. Yes it did.

Really nice Janet. I love it when a song makes a bend in the road. Just curious... is your piano a mic'd up real piano or a keyboard piano? Hate to hear about your pain... but maybe it shows up in your music and adds a touch of magic.... ;-)

Thank you, Eric! Very kind of you! Thank you, Guitarpima! Thank you, John. You used it as a brake? I bet that's an interesting story! Thanks, Herb. That chord progression thread in the other forum made me think about other ways to change things up. You liked the key change at the end? Jimmy used to say those weren't in style any more, so I've avoided it....but this one called for it. Glad it worked! Thank you, Lynn. I appreciate that. Actually, it's probably not a good idea to keep playing right now...which is why this took a couple weeks...and I've had to give up on the cello for awhile. Maybe some day... Thank you Shawn! Thanks so much Marcus! There are a few pianists around here that are sheer acrobats with their fingers and compositions. That's not me, but I was hoping this would resonate with a few. I've got about 100 up on my SC page if you want to hear more. ;) Thank you Jason. I was going for some dynamic change-ups. Glad they came across. Thank you Bub. I really like the opening riff...getting the rest of it to work was a struggle, as usual. :) And I wish I could do a lot of other things, so I hear ya! Wow, Reece. Thank you! Thanks, Rik. I'll work on that. :) Thank you, Space. I never play computer games. Working on computers makes me feel terrible, so I only do what I have to. Unfortunately, that's a lot of hours a day anyway. Thank you, Tony. It's a keyboard, using Ivory. Right now I couldn't play this straight thru with no mistakes, and I don't know how to mic a piano anyway. :) Glad you liked it and the bends in the road too. ;)

Janet, This is exquisite. I love the sound you have on this piano (although I think Rik is right, a bit more reverb would work wonders). The 'rising' part about 2:10 had me smiling - it's a great bridge. I sincerely hope your shoulder problems resolve themselves, it must be horrible to have to limit doing something you so obviously love (and are so talented at). Cheers, Terry.

Dan, thank you very much! :) Massage...ah, that sounds nice! :) Thanks so much, Vicente. :) Mark, 2nd listen? Thank you! :) You're very kind, Lynn. Thanks so much. :) Good to see you again, Terry! How's your son doing? Thanks for the kudos and I'm glad it made you smile. I wasn't sure if that part worked or not. And the sound...that's thanks to Ivory and lots of help here tweaking it. The first time I heard it, it felt I imagine swimming in chocolate would be. :) I'll try more reverb. Thanks again! Thank you, Daryl. :) Yeah, pain and feelings....that has come out in a lot of my songs I suppose. And yeah, there's suffering involved, for sure. At least nice music comes out of it now and then. :) You all here make it way more enjoyable. Thanks so much for your help and encouragement and friendship. You all are the best!
