After SONAR crashes, buses are silent

After SONAR crashes (usually while loading a VST plugin) and I restart the program, SONAR gives me this error:

The following tracks and buses are currently assigned to a silent hardware output. The items listed below will be silent in your projects until their outputs are reassigned to an appropriate hardware output.

(Listing of the buses assigned to my audio hardware)

The only solutions I have found thus far are to restart my computer, which takes a long time, or to switch from ASIO to WASAPI, which doesn't work nearly as well. I haven't had SONAR crash again after switching to WASAPI, but I expect that audio would stop working in WASAPI too.

I am using Sonar 8.5.3 on Windows 7 x64 and a Cakewalk UA-1G audio interface since the hardware in my laptop isn't very good. Unplugging and reconnecting the device does nothing, nor does plugging it into a different USB port or manually disabling and re-enabling the device in device manager.

Is there anything I can do to get my audio working again after a crash without restarting my computer?

you shouldnt have to reboot your computer..when you go into sonar and it gives you this message override it by clicking okay..normaly this should take you to your project..solution #!try clicking on your audio engine light in the control bar...solution #2 open the preference menu by hitting P.then simply click okay..this works for me all the time.solution # 3..go to your preference menu by hitting P (on your keyboard)go to drivers.make sure there listed and make the nessesary adjustments

I can get into my project just fine. The audio engine light turns itself off immediately after I click it.

Unfortunately, after SONAR crashes, whatever drivers were being used are no longer listed under the drivers tab of the audio preferences window. My best guess is that SONAR is leaving some sort of connection to my device's ASIO drivers open when it crashes, and it can't connect to them anymore after it starts back up.

Get rid of the plug-in that's causing the crashes.

It's hard to keep SONAR from crashing when you're trying plugins you've never used before. Also, I've been using some plugins like Naive LPF for years without a problem, and said plugin just started causing a project to crash now.

    Yes, but it didn't help.
