After Win 10 update Sonar looks low resolution (Solved)

Hey there

Tonight I upgraded my main music computer to Win 10. Honestly I was not ready for it- I was going to wait, but it tricked me in to updating.

After the first look, Sonar Platinum looks like it runs in low resolution. Everything is big. The screen resolution did not change, it says, 1929X1080. The desktop background looks normal, but Sonar looks huge, like it runs in 800X600. Looks like it does not comply with the screen resolution setting. Is it video driver? What else can I tweak? Thank you.

Try setting Windows resolution to a new value, and then setting it back to the resolution now. There have been reports of default settings not carrying forward correctly.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Also try rebooting and updating your display drivers from the manufacturers site (e.g. AMD or NVidia).

The Catalyst driver for AMD is up to the latest version. I did try to change resolution to lower and back this am, and it did not help. The software synths also open huge. This is very uncomfortable because one view takes the entire screen. But desktop background looks normal, so it is likely Sonar issue. On my other computer, same happens to Yahoo messenger. Also there is blurred picture on both computers, but that is another issue. Sonar is running in low resolution with VSTs. Also I think Sample Tank 3 opened looking normal...

What ever it is it's down to your display adapter and drivers. Try googling your display make and model and Windows 10 + resolution to big... For further advice.

Another thing to do is check your monitor refresh rate. Win 10 often gets it wrong.

Also make sure the screen is set to 100% for aspect ratio on the display preferences.

But desktop background looks normal, so it is likely Sonar issue. On my other computer, same happens to Yahoo messenger.

Well the problem with Yahoo is not a SONAR issue . Considering how many people are running 10, if it was a SONAR issue, you wouldn't be the only person experiencing this so far. It has to be system-specific...I also use an AMD card because it's fanless, but I've been less than happy with their update history. Some work just fine, some are...well...maybe not so wonderful.

They do updates pretty often, you might want to check again.

Re: After Win 10 update Sonar looks low resolution 2015/09/15 14:29:36 (permalink)
The issue *might* be Sonar-related or interaction between Sonar and Win 10. I would agree that it is Windows only if eveything was in low resolution. If I change it to 800X600 or else, my desktom background will become inlarged. This is Sonar issue, because everything else is small like it should. Microsoft suite- Word is small. Internet looks normal. Have you ever tried to change resolution? Everything would change, not just certain programs. Sonar is missing some setting that would make it respond to the proper resolution. I dont know how it works, but something misreeding the setting. The Yahoo messanger is on another computer. Not related but it just means that it is possible for some programs to not respond to settings.

You saying- the driver. If the driver specifically isolates Sonar out of other programs, then this is something to be adressed between Cakewalk and AMD. This is not my responsibility to connect right people so that they can figure out the problems they created. This is pretty big issue. I can only see 3 track on a 27 inch screen, this is how big it is. The Nemesis software synth takes the entire screen. This is not a matter of being uncomfortable, this is a matter of being unusable. When they released last updae, they speifically advertised that it is compatable with Win 10. But not with every Window 10...

How did I get tricked? I cloned my C drive with Acronic because it had no space left. On the old drive the WinX icon was saying, "Your Windows 10 is ready". After I cloned, the icon changed and was saying, "Reserve your copy of Windows". I said, "wow- it does not remember that I registered 2 months ago and already had it ready for me. So I wanted to reserve it. I clicked on "Reserve your upgrade", it looked at few things and then said- "Let's do it'. It was 1 in the morning, but I figured- it is a push that I need- I would never upgrade otherwise. Plus- Cakewalk says- it is fully compatable- what do I have to lose?" So I let it do what it wants. It told me to sit and relax... And then it did it.

So here I am: can see 3 tracks at a time. I am happy that it is not your or Cakewalk's problem. Untill it happens to one of you.

I rolled back to Windows 7 after I encountered the dreaded blurry text issue (Google 'W10 blurry text' - there's acres of complaints). The reason is that MSoft doesn't give a rat's ass about the millions of desktop and laptop computers in the world - it firmly believes we, like them, lie around in bean bags sporting trendy moustaches, playing around with 'mobile devices' as we sail into their golden vision of the future. So they changed how text is displayed in W10, optimising it for these devices and the rest of the world's desktop and laptop users can go whistle as we don't fit into the new vision. I believe there's a fix somewhere, but I thought 'Why the f* should I waste time on such nonsense' and rolled back to W7 which is just fine.  Oh, and W10 didn't let me see my two printers - didn't install the simple common drivers and even claimed there were no devices on my home network. Some vision.

It says, "Go to configurations. Go to systems
move slider to change size of text to 150% and press ok
After sign on again do the same but change the slider to 100% and press enter."

I did change that solution back and force, but not with signing out and restarting. Just changing that setting and changing it back did not work, but I will try to change it and restart. Thanks for sharing. Will update.

Skyline, I already got used to bad text quality on my other Win 10 computer. There is settings for it that let you work with the different text samples and pick the one you like out of 6 samples at least 5 times, but it is not that helpful. You only realizing it when it switches from good to bed...

Sometimes I do feel sorry for M$ this is nothing to do with them
The people you need to direct your complaint to is the people who make the drivers of your display adapter (AMD/nVidia?).
If you haven't updated to the latest drivers (from third party site) then you didn't configure Windows 10 correctly (don't expect it to be "automagic"), or they haven't supplied good enough drivers then you should pounce on them.

    Likewise, same with your printers.

With nvidia for instance initially I got this "blurry" issue until I updated the drivers from nvidia's site and configured them correctly. However I have another PC with an old AMD display adapter that AMD will not support with Windows 10, so sadly I have blurry text and I need to buy a new compatible display adapter.

Also many of the "blurry" issues I notice are from not setting the monitor refresh rate and resolution within Windows 10.

And "didn't install the simple common drivers" - There is no such thing nowadays. If only there were.

It worked! The issue fixed! I am so happy. Should not be too happy till I test all my 300 VSTs..., but at least Sonar looks normal and I may try this trick on my other computer. Thank you very much.

I am guessing the thread Brando and I linked was the fix. If it was something else please note the solution in a post. Also please edit the initial post and update the subject line with [Solved] so others may benefit from this thread.

Yes, thank you for reposting the link- this is what solved it:
