Ah your classic comedy sketches

I know it's a bit of a cliche to say "they don't write 'em like that any more" but I have to say this old Dave Allen sketch really does fit the bill. Such pure, elemental comedy. They really don't.

    Yep, love that. So simple yet seemingly beyond the ability of modern "comedy" writers.
     
    It would have to be parked on a whole wad of them to make it worth the wait these days though.

    First thing I thought was "how much would that tenner be worth now."
     
    The best thing about this comedy sketch, apart from the flawless setup and impeccable expressions of Dave Allen, is the fact that (for me anyway) the punchline was so unexpected. I went through a number of possible different outcomes in my mind as I watched it, like "I wonder if he's going to drink more than a tenner's worth of tea." When the punchline came it took me by surprise and I think that's why I laughed so hard.

    Yes, there was a certain subtle charm about it. Not to mention that nobody would go through that effort today for ten pounds.

    I thought it was going to be all kinds of people coming from various directions having waited on the car to move.  Or, I wondered if the cafe owner was setting it up to get business.  Funny though.  Just good ole comedy.  I suspect comedy writers today are too absorbed in political and social messaging to just be funny for funny's sake.
