Ah...I think this is a bug? FX Chain

I created an FX Chain and loaded it with a Sonitus reverb and delay.  I inserted it into a track and now that track starts WAY late, is at 1/2 speed and down an octave.  If I remove the FX Chain all is well...re-insert and the issue is back.

I checked the X1(b) bugs list and did not see this specific bug.

RAWK!!!

What happens if you try inserting them one at a time, not as a chain, but as the normal way of inserting FXs ?

No problem...that works great.  In fact, that's how it's normally setup in this project.  I just wanted to try out the FX Chain function.  I have two guitar tracks that I recorded at the same time with two different mics.  I had both FXs bins setup the same on both tracks with minor differences in EQ and  compression.  I created an FX Chain and put reverb and delay in the chain.  I removed the stand-alone reverb and delay from one of the guitar tracks and inserted the FX chain in their place.  The track with the FX Chain starts late, is half speed and down an octave.  The other track, without the FX Chain but with stand-alone reverb and delay, plays normally.

    Wow, that's really strange.

Normally things like "slow downs" etc are related to sample rates in a project or file (wav, etc).

I don't think I've heard of this problem on the forum yet.

Yep, it's strange all right.  I'd be interested if anyone else could duplicate the issue.

I would troubleshoot this in the following way.

    1: Delete the chain altogether.
2: Save your project, close X1 then restart X1 and open your project.
3: Now insert the effects you want, and recreate the chain.
4: See if the new chain does the same thing.

If the new chain is still mis-behaving, try it in a new project with new audio. This will confirm if the chain is the problem, or possibly a corrupt project file.

If the problem is continuing and can be re-created with a new project - submit a bug report.
    http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/problemreport.aspx

FYI: I use chains quite a bit and they are not behaving like that at all. That really doesn't mean much though, as I don't have the same project, same chain, on the same machine, etc.... That's why I'm suggesting a little troubleshooting.

    Good luck!

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Yeah, I've done the above trouble shooting with the exception of creating a new project...no go.  I'll try creating a new project to test with tomorrow.

Just a quick addition, I had the same problem loading an FX chain with Sonitus Reverb: down speed and down pitch.  But if I removed that, and added the FX individually, it worked fine.

I wonder if this is a 64 bit issue? I just created a chain with the Sonitus Reverb and a Compressor and it worked as expected on my 32 bit XP setup.

This is an odd problem indeed. I hope the bakers can replicate the problem reported by the OP so it can get resolved.

I'm glad someone else was able to replicate the issue.  Yeah, if I remove the FX chain and just use the individual plugins it works fine for me too.  For now, the FX Chain feature in SONAR X1 is less than useless for me.  I don't see any mention of the issue on the X1(b) bug list so I'm guessing this one is going to be around for awhile.

OK, I just created a brand new project solely with X1.  I created an FX Chain and loaded just Sonitus reverb and delay.  Yep, I get the same bad results!!!   The song starts late, plays back at 1/2 speed and down an octave.

Man, this is so strange.  It's like the Three Stooges.  They fix a water leak, turn the water faucet on and water squirts out the STOVE and LIGHT BULBS!

Yeah, mine is probably more the 1/2 speed too...it was just easier to say 1/2 speed.  And yes, removing the FX Chain and going BACK to individual FXs works.

So, we have a cool new feature that doesn't work in X1 in at least three reports here so far.

Same here amiller. If I 'Extract' each effect from the inserted chain all is back to normal, but when 'converted' back to a chain with those two plugs it's as you described.

Same here amiller. If I 'Extract' each effect from the inserted chain all is back to normal, but when 'converted' back to a chain with those two plugs it's as you described.

Ughh...with such an easily reproduceable error you'd think this one would have stood out like a sore thumb during QC testing.  Man, I just don't get this one.  Especially since the FX Chain is touted as a very cool new feature...bragging rights and all.   Absolutely no excuse...what a disappointment.

Keep in mind this could be a spin off of any number of fixes coming in X1b. OR - it could be a completely new one

If it's new, it will likely be around for another update. I'm really surprised this one has not been brought up on the forums yet. One could question how it got through the beta tests, but even with this very vocal user group over the past 3 months nobody has brought it up.

    Very strange indeed.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Well, I think a lot of folks here may have been like me.  I saw the FX Chain feature and thought "hey cool, I'll have to give that a try AFTER I kick the tires on the more important stuff."  So, it may not have been checked out till now.  Or, maybe it worked in X1 but got broke in X1(a).  Or, maybe there are so many bugs folks just got tired of reporting them and their taking a wait and see attitude regarding X1(b).

Anyway, it's not a show stopper.  However, if I worked for Cake I sure would be embarrassed about this one especially since it was touted as a new cool feature.

I would venture to guess that it's caused by something else they've fixed, it could be a side effect (no pun intended) of another functional bug.  I couldn't begin to explain why Reverb would have a pitch and speed bug.

Is there an official place to report bugs or a special way to do it in the forums?  I think there's more than enough of us that can confirm this bug.

Cake asked me to send them a copy of the FX Chain preset that I created so they can try to duplicate the problem...huh?  How do I send them a copy of a process?  I wrote back that I selected "FX Chain" from the FX Bin menu, inserted the Sonitus reverb and delay and then saved the FX Chain.  That's really pretty straight forward...no mystery to creating it.

Has anyone running 64bit been able to create an FX Chain as above and have it work correctly when inserted into an audio track?

They probably want to see the actual file that X1 references (where it's storing the chain info).  When you save chains, it puts them in a local folder on the PC, I would gather.

I have had several odd things happen with effects chains from silencing the entire track to the half speed, low pitch issue.  Something is very whacky...

I just confirmed the same behavior (track slows down to about half speed).

Happens when loading the following Sonitus EFX as FX Chains:
    • Reverb & Delay
    • Comp & Delay
    • Delay
    • Reverb
    • Phase
    • Surround

These Sonitus EFX don't appear to cause the symptoms
    • Comp
    • EQ
    • Gate
    • Modulator
    • Multiband
    • Surround Comp
    • Wahwah

If you drag the problematic EFX out of the Chain (into the Bin), things work as expected.
Tried saving FX Chains with other Delay/Reverb plugins and those worked as expected.

I reproduced it. The recipe is very specific and not a general issue.

    1. You have to have the track interleave set to mono to reproduce the issue.
    2. You have to have a DX plugin in an effects chain that can ONLY do stereo processing. Such as the Sonitus delay, reverb or some of the others listed.

The issue was that the effects chain is not acknowedging the fact that the plugin was mono only. You can see this in the interleave graphic painted in the bin. It shows mono when it should have shown stereo.
