Ain't That A Shame (Rockin' Blues)

So the other day I was listening to some Blues --- then I switched over to some Rockabilly  --- and --- then I switched over to some Rock 'n Roll.  So then I started thinking about how diverse the Blues of the early and mid 1950's were.  Then, unfortunately, I thought about what would happen when you tried to combine all of the sounds above.  Well this is what happened!.?,!?  For you Blues purists (especially you Texas Blues lovers), you will note that this number is kind of Bluesy but does not have a shuffle beat.  You Rock 'n Rollers, hopefully, will note a bit of R 'n R and R 'n R beat.  Rockabilly cats, you might note a bit of Rockabilly in the 1st lead break.

Well the song might not be any good but I was having so much fun in doing it that I thought I would try and share that fun.  As usual comments, suggestions, crit,'s, etc. are appreciated.

Thanks for listening.

I thought maybe we had a Fats cover?

Freddy... I believe you are perfecting your sound/vibe. Your recordings have come a long way :-)
I'm normally not a big fan of the hard pan? It could be because I listen in phones :-) But you did a good job with the technique here. I think this is your best mix to date.

    Good job!

I have to disagree with Robby ... I like the hard pan technique. I say, if the Beatles can get away with hard panning bass, we can do it with guitars. :) They went crazy with panning when they moved from the mono realm.

I like the song Freddie. Hard to top Pretty Lady though. :) I still listen to that from time to time. :)

I like it Freddy, good sounding mix.  The only nit I'd have is the kick seems out of time in a couple spots but no big deal.

have to admit I was scared of the mix in the first 10 seconds, but as the song went on it just got more and more enjoyable. Great raw blues sir.

You have this style nailed Freddy and make it sound so easy. My wife came in, gave me a funny look in and asked why I am listening to that, as it's not the kind of thing I would normally listen to. My answer was that good is just good, no matter what the style.

    Hi Freddy,

Nice job on this! Love the song and the mix sounds great from here.

I think the guitar solo is perfect for the song. Cool background vocals, too.

I am on another road trip and am in Kentucky today (I think?  --- too much road dust covering up my perceptions). Anyway, I am using the house computer, and I have got people waiting to use this so I must be quick.  Therefore, I won't be able to respond to you individually this time --  but --- thanks you all for listening and taking the time to respond.  I very much appreciate it.  I do hope that you had fun listening.

You are a very talented artist, I have listened to your music and songs for some time now and not replied because of various reasons. I must say I was a shocked to hear that this was not a Fat's Domino cover song. That song title is the type that in my opinion should never be rewritten as a title because Fat's Domino's song was something special.

I'm sorry, I really like your music, but that was kind of ASHAMED to use a IDOL and LEGENDS song title, not to mention you knew this if you are as you say a blues player.

Either way, sorry, Ain't that ashamed, your the one to blame.

Keep on dropping by those cool tunes, you missed with this one but you've hit more than missing so I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

    Be Well!

Yep, that's the Fredster alright!  Nice job buddy.  I agree that the hard pan works well here.   Well, I'm gonna go lookin' for Heavy_Sounds tunes now.  He must really be good.  Nice job, Freddy.  This would be fun to listen to in a bar with a bunch of people whoopin and hollerin!  Them with their beer and me with my coffee. :-)  Well, I can't find him.  reckon it's one of our name changers?

you can't not like this - I also thought thge mix sounded extreme with the panning when it started up, but that didn;t last long. Great playing and love the vocals / backing vocals, and of course that laugh - made me smile.

Hey freddie, fun track.  I like the vocal.  Sounds very authentic, could have been any of the blues greats singing that track.  The only thing that put me off was there was a couple of times the timing goes off ever so slighty.

    Good work Peace

Well, we are back and man was it hot up north in the deep south.  We got a chance to look at some of the caves up in KY and had a great time.  We have kicked off the road dust and now I'm looking at a bunch of laundry that needs to be done.

I am sorry that I haven't been able to respond more quickly and to each of you individually on this number, but I do thank you all for taking the time to listen and comment.  I appreciate the kind words and the suggestions.

Freddy, Freddy, Freedy, what a GREAT tune and performance. Love the guitar tone and solo. The mix I agree with the others coming across POLISHED on my end.  Your vocals and harmonies are sounding crisp and clean and sit perfect in the mix. GREAT JOB!

    Hi Freddy,

I couldn't pass this pearl up.  Another delight in the true vein of Rhythm and Blues.  I love it.

Mix talk:  i think you might do well to get a nice tube saturation or some eq to take the edges off.  I would play around with boosting the lower mids a little.

Nice work on this very cool authentic sounding rockin' blues number!

Great vocals and playing, nice clean, traditional sounding blues mix, and the harp sounds like the perfect icing on a cake.

    Really good stuff, buddy!

Some of the drums fill-ins kind of throw the tempo off a bit.  Otherwise such a fun song.  Like your lyrics and great spirited singing.  Nice beat and love the guitars as they setup the mood of the song.
