Ain't technologocy grand???
I just got my first iPhone! I've had an iPad for almost a year now, but my wife and I have never had data plans on our phones and even texting was limited. Friday I got an iPhone 4s (it was cheap on contract). I LURVE it!

Yes, we can barely wait until the end of this decade.

I do so much on my iPhone and I'd be stuck without my Mophie charging case. One of my favorite uses is as a Kindle using the Kindle app - I didn't think I'd be able to get used to it first but as it turns out you do. Think I've read close to a hundred books on my iPhone now. The retina screen is essential for reading text, I couldn't go back to a "normal" dot pitch now.

I went from a Blackberry Pearl to an I-Phone... man, what a difference. Why did I wait so long? I used the BB so long that the trackball surround came loose, I got a replacement and it broke too. I used clear tape across and around the sides to hold the surround for the trackball in place, then used a utility knife to cut around the trackball and trim it in. It worked... but the I-Phone is WAY better. It just works! I play checkers on it most every night, it whipped my arse for a long time now I can beat it on most levels. My biggest gripe is when someone includes me in a group text message... I mean really... J

Careful - for me the iPhone served as a gateway to Apple land. ;) I bought my 3G - which was already becoming obsolete - in 2009. I still use it to play MP3 and take pics, but that's it. When we moved here, I got a little LG phone (mainly so that we'd have some kind of bill here in Vegas and could start building a credit story and all). I hate that piece of junk with all my heart and I do miss my iPhone, but since the only time I use the phone is when my wife calls to tell me she's on her way back from work, there'd be no point in spending more $ on an iPhone.

My biggest gripe is when someone includes me in a group text message... I mean really... J I used my old BlackBerry Bold until the trackball was gummed up, the screen was caved in and one corner of the keyboard sank every time you pressed a key. It had tape all over the place keeping it together. Oh and by the end the battery only lasted about 4 hours. But I loved that phone. I remember how awesome it was when it was new. Say what you like about BlackBerrys, the keyboards on those things are beautiful. As much as I love my iPhone, I still hate typing on a touchscreen after all these years. I find it horribly frustrating. Autocomplete is always doing dumb things (like changing words I've typed correctly into something else) and I'm frequently hitting the space bar instead of a letter on the bottom row. I could type at breakneck speed on my BlackBerry without making a single mistake. I didn't even need autocomplete. But I guess you can't have the best of both worlds. I tried, with one of those touchscreen BlackBerries that has the pull-out keyboard, but that was a pain in the ass in itself. Oh well, maybe I'll get good at touchscreen typing within the next 10 years or so.

I like my dumb phone. It's small enough to carry in my pocket and I can make calls. A lot of my friends that have smart phones usually leave the things lying around because they're too big to be comfortable in their pockets. I usually have trouble calling them, because their phones aren't close enough to hear the the ring or their batteries are dead from playing Angry Birds.

That's another thing I like about my phone. It may have a 5.7" 1080p screen, but it's got a thin surrounding and is very slim so it fits in my shirt (or pants) pockets easily. My DroidX2 was much thicker with a significantly smaller screen. Oh yeah, and the battery lasts FAR longer on this phone!

*Pfft...* If I wanted all of my devices to interact, I'd get them a room! My buisness absolutely depends on communication. 4 or 5 years ago my company finally started offering reimbursment for employees buying their own phones and using them for company and personnal use. I had blueberries and androids for years up until I finally switched to the dark side and bought into the iPhone. Six months later, I bought an iPad; my company reimbursed for both and pays the monthly plan for my service. Yes....I feel fortunate. Downside is we have to answer the phone. But...we basically had to anyway, if expected to keep our jobs. As Reese has pointed out, now my phone, my pad, and my laptop all seamlessly sinc together at all time. When I am on show site, I can leave the laptop in the room and carry an iPad and do virtually anything I need to do. I have even started saving pdf drawings of the projects we work on and can call them up instantly on the iPad and seemlessly zoom in to view details. Many in my building have fought switching to Apple for years, but one by one, I see them converting here where I work. All of our managers and Project Mangers have gone iPhone. Why, they just work....they easily connect to what ever network or work envirornment I walk or travel into. There is no going back for me. On the personnal side of the iPhone and iPad.....I don't mind companies who continue to make music apps that work with either. They sure are more advanced than the Tom Schultz Rockman I bought 20 years ago, I use them in the same way and at a fraction of the cost. It will never replace my DAW. It's a tool to be used as I would a Line 6 Pod, or a Rockman, a Tuner, a pocket camera, etc. And....its with me all the time. Rain.....I haven't made the leap to a Mac yet......no company reimbursment for that.

My mobile is just a burner. No contract and it costs me $100 per year. My daughter's iphone costs me $75 per month. As it stands, only one of us can afford cool tech. I just can't pay the huge Canadian telcomm prices for a device that makes it easier for people to call and ask me to do things. A little privacy and solitude goes a long way.

To me the iPhone is just the right size. Any bigger and it would be too big. I've tried some of those larger smartphones and while it's nice having so much screen estate, I find it a pain to reach up to the top corners with my thumb, especially when you're using it one handed. And I have hands like spades.

I agree sharke. but I do have a reason to have a larger screen - mainly for live music sets. I put my music on my ipad for playing live! but I'd rather my phone be small like my iphone is!
