Maybe they confused him as a shredder who plays thrash metal?

It makes me wonder how many people try to travel with a carry on vintage guitar in a chip board case each day?

What are the odds that there will be a problem?

Heck, it may even be safer than flying.

The only good reason for traveling like that, with a guitar like that, is
thinking they may get to collect on their insurance.
A nice guitar deserves to be played and taken care of...and if anybody
thinks "taking care of one" is touring with one...well...not much more
    needs to be said IMO.
And if they do without insurance?....well they'd be just a special kind of stupid.

Boy...just think of what Horowitz had to deal with...he traveled with his own grand piano in tow!

Seriously tho...I wouldn't travel with my 65 "anything" on an airplane...carry on or otherwise.

Beepster, I chuckled at the same thing.
The "Hanukkah-themed rock band" and the "hockey-themed rock group the Zambonis"

    Strange combo indeed.
I've often wondered why 'Jewish - Hockey Rock' never really went more mainstream.
It gives me hope that someday the world will open their minds just a little.

Klezmer is party music from Eastern Europe.  For a real kick check out NYC's own Klezmatics.  They call their musical style "Rhythm and Jews".

I think that they don't give a flying concourse..

That is bad... and if it were my guitar it would now be worth much more. I am an exterminator and I once accidentally killed a cat trying to solve a flea infestation in an unfinished basement. The cement floor not only soaks up the insecticide, it neutralizes much of it due to being so alkiline... so you have to use more than usual. The people put the cat back too soon and low and behold... the cat bacame a prized 1,000.00 animal. I was glad to pay and be away.
Yes, this is now a priceless guitar that the owner had a strong emotional attachment to and 10,000.00 is not even close.
Speaking of 10,000.00. id you see the couple from NJ who got a check for 10,000.00 from Allstate in compensation for their completely destroyed home? Of course, they may have had a contents policy... I figure I don't know the whole story. You should take a lesson from this and always be sure your homeowners, car, and instrument insurance is a "replacement" policy.

Yep... this guitar was once played by Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon... to be sure!

There's an update to this story:

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/delta-gibson-guitar-schneider-leevees-zambonis-203119266.html

As an owner of the same guitar (1965 ES-335), I can realize his torment about the damaged guitar. But it seems a little publicity really turned a devastating situation into something acceptable, especially with Gibson stepping in (kudos to Gibson) and offering to fix the guitar and even give him a new replacement. (Note that in the original story, the case got 'totaled' but the guitar got damaged and was apparently repairable.)

The $10,000 value quote the guy presented also was very inflated (probably based on an inflated Ebay listings), although I can't blame him for trying. $6000 - $7500 might be more realistic. On the other hand, the one I own is 'priceless'. It was my first electric guitar after learning how to play and practicing on some cheapo $30 acoustic for a year or two (now that how you build up callouses). Finally the parents realized I was serious and offered some assistance for me in this purchase. Unless I hit some very hard-times, I hope to never let mine go due to its sentimental value.
