Akai with Sonar X2 ?
Hi, I've been looking at the Akai MPC 1000, anyone have one ? Is it good ? Does it work well with SONAR ? I was thinking of either Maschine MK2 or the Akai MPC 1000, anyone any thoughts on either of these, to produce beats in SONAR X2. Thanks John

Maschine , no brainer tbh. Why not get an old mk1 micro if you can get one from a shop? 159 quid Boxed and new. For that you get... Maschine 1.8 Massive All of the usual freebies from NI. I love kontakt as it loads all of my old akai stuff and converts to stuff maschine can load. All in all a superb package for 159 quid , if you can track one down. The older bigger versions are under 300 I think, but pads on the old mikro are better.

tbh if you are looking for a drum machine the maschine mikro is more than good enough and works well in sonar.. If you are going to use it standalone a lot then get the full size controller tho

This would only be for studio only, and not for live work, so would the answer be the same ?

What I've done in the past, if you're fond of the MPC's pads, is to record your sequences on the MPC, save them to memory card, then open the MIDI file on Sonar and play them back via Sonar, using the MPC as a MIDI slave. Then you can build your other tracks around it.

CakeAlexS Just got the Roland Octapad SPD-30. Mind blowing.... Only problem is, I'm not a drummer, and I'm looking for something that has a lot of beats already programmed, and just need tweaked.

jwh This would only be for studio only, and not for live work, so would the answer be the same ? Yes it would.. the focus of all the Maschine/mpc/MV type products is studio..though they can all be used live With Maschine, you get 6GB of content, incl a huge number of drum kits each with its own set of rhythm patterns..so it is a huge source for inspiration... and then you can simply use the mouse on the pattern sequencer to modify the pattern for new beats..or use the controller either way works... dont like a kick drum? swap it out for something else from the Maschine library, the cakewalk content, anything else you have..or sample a kick from some song. There are a number of ways to use with Sonar.. from the easiest being to make your patterns in maschine, then simply drag & drop audio loops direct from maschine to a drum track in sonar. done. Or you can go nuts.. instantiate all audio outs so that each hit goes to its own audio track in sonar.. build the entire song up in patterns in maschine, and control pattern change (scenes) via midi from sonar.. In this way you can build and develop the entire song..when done hit freeze and watch all the audio tracks appear... more involved work, but if you endlessly tweak a sound or a pattern then this works... additional benefit is that you can change mix within a pattern in audio given you have the multi-outs.

Thanks Mystic38, I think this will be my next purchase, sounds like a great piece of kit, think I'll go for the full size rather than the mikro, probably easier to use.
