Led Zeppelin for sure. I was 10 years old when their first album came out. First song I heard on that album was How Many More Times and it absolutely floored me. Still my favorite Zep tune (if it’s possible to pick just one.) Saw them several times. I was probably the youngest kid in the audience the first couple of times I saw them.

For “life changing experience” though, it was seeing ELP on their Brain Salad Surgery Tour in ’74. Mind blowing. Quadraphonic P.A. I seriously attacked my piano for several hours a day for a couple of years after that. Ended up playing keyboards full time in clubs after I was done with high school. We played ELP, Zeppelin, Deep purple, you name it, along with a mix of our progressive hard rock originals. Fun times.

"Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" was one of the most complex, strange stories put to music and I had to study the writings so carefully and numerous times while listening, until I "got it" and it will forevermore be my favourite "concept" album.

Although a great album, I'll take Foxtrot over it any day.

It's not actually my "favourite" Genesis album (that would be Tresspass), but TLLDOB stands alone, IMO, as a masterpiece of genious, bizarre storytelling and a wonderful ability to keep the pace for a full 4 sides.

And I guess the "get it" part of TLLDOB was that it was the first time a musical strory played in my mind like a good book can, like a "mind movie", and this helped me transcend music from mere entertainment to a mental/emotional experience.

I have like 20 Hawkwind LPs - surely one of the larger in the US. They never caught on here. Why when people talk about Hawkwind is it only You Shouldnt do That or Silver Machine or Sonic Attack? Why not Days of the Underground, or Assault and Battery

And over here in the US, most people think of Genesis as a disco band. Yuck.
