Alesis Ion

I just purchased an Alesis Ion synth. The MIDI connections work good with cakewalk 2002, but I cannot reproduce any of the original sounds or any of the sounds that are made by this synth only MIDI.
How can I record the Ion sounds to an audio track on the cakewalk?

    Take a cord from the audio out of the synth into the line in on the computer. Arm an audio track hit record and play away.
