Alesis QS8.1 and MIDI playback

Hi, all. Beginner with no luck question.
Im using an Alesis QS8.1 with Sonar. Everything appears to be set up correctly, Ive assigned and defined the instrument, with specific settings for the Alesis, set the MIDI inputs and outputs for the sound card(SB AUDIGY,...i know i know), Im getting no sound at all, Sonar records notes, even changes the patch correctly in the keyboard. The track records the data, but no sound. This is also true for the tutorial files, no sound. Other projects with just audio loops play fine play just fine. Im guessing I have a setting wrong or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Do you have the audio outs of your QS8 going into your sound card?

Where are you sending the audio output to from the QS8? Since the MIDI data seems to be moving ok between the QS and your computer, it might be a simple matter of double checking the audio connections from the QS to whatever powers your speakers.

Yes, i just plugged the L/R mains of the QS into the Audigy, that did help,Thank you. i got the sound to come out, but on the tutorial tracks where there many different instruments playing at once, only the first track has audio. MIDI is a whole new ballgame.

Did you set your QS8 up for General MIDI? On your QS8 press "Edit Select" then press "Global". Now press the "Page>" 6 times until your display show Pg7 General MIDI. Press "Value(up)" button once, even if it says it's already on. If your display doesn't automaticly change to "Mix" window, press the "Mix" button. Now you can use the "Page (<,>) buttons to change chanels and the "Value" (up, down) to change instruments. HTH.
