Alesis for Apple
Sometime ago, I started a post regarding the usefulness and versatility of Apple's iPad. I got a lot of flack for suggesting that the iPad could have a dramatic affect on how recording and related tasks could handle with this device. It was odd for me because, though it seemed I was bashing SONAR, I have been accused of Apple bashing simply because I use SONAR on a PC.
Nonetheless, I would like to circle back, Scott, and ask if anyone has considered Alesis latest interface for the iPad?
http://www.alesis.com/iodock. Now, I did not ever think of this happening, but just consider how cool this is. At some point, and even now just using
Garage Band, you could do your recording and mixing untethered and unencumbered. Granted, the quality may be compromised with the above, but I remind you all again, this is just the beginning of what could be a dominating fixture in the studio. Still, others have a long way to go just to catch up to Apple at this point while they continue to improve on the iPad. Not to mention other notable makers taking to this wide open "niche" market. Just think, I never thought I would see a handheld portable interface from RME, and now we have the Babyface. Such companies can easily design devices and software/applications that integrate natively with already mature studio gear. Still think the iPad is just a toy?
Again, let me reiterate, I am not an Apple user in the least. But the possibilities here leave me wanting what may never be for a SONAR user. Besides, Apple have already put Intel's Thunderbolt ready laptops on the market...and where are PCs? Still waiting for USB3 to become more available. Take about being smoked....no sauce needed.
So, yeah, an ultra portable DAW that is also a fully integrated interface would be nice. Now for the things to come. It could only get better.
