Alesis multimix8 firwire

Last time, I posted a problem on this forum a few of you soloved my problem in no time.  Since then i have had a great time using MC5.  Thanks.  Now, I'm trying something new.  I want to record all my band buddies at once.  Anyway,

I'm trying to get an Alesis Mulitmix firewire mixer to work with Music Creator 5.  I dowloaded the latest drivers form Alesis.com (for what I run Windows 7 64 bit) and followed the installations instructions.  The installation seemed to go smoothly and the computer said that it was properly installed.  When I open MC5, I get the message: "the following driver(s) either do not support the current audio format, or are in use by another application." I tried every audio mode: asio, WDM, WASAPI, etc. and closed and reopened the program.  Inside MC5 the drop down menues show the ALesis multimix listed and the different Alesis input channels are listed inside the drop down menues inside the recording tracks.   There is also a seperate program with the alesis' global settings; I'm not sure what to do with that?!?!  Anyone out there tried this thing with MC5.  Thanks for whatever info anyone might have.

    Hi gordsd,
first, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from alesis?  if so, change to ASIO driver mode then click APPLY.

you might get the error message here.  click OK
now verify that you're running the correct sampling rate.  I don't remember what formats of sampling rate that the alesis uses, but I"m sure it uses 44.1kHz.  make sure your MC5 is using 44.1kHz.  OPTIONS>AUDIO>GENERAL>DEFAULT SAMPLING RATE FOR NEW PROJECTS>44100

now click APPLY and close and then start a NEW project.

if you still get the message, let me know and we'll work on it more.

you do realize that MC5 is limited to TWO simultaneous inputs, right?  the firewire 8 will record 8 inputs to a software program that allows it, but MC does not allow that many.  you have to upgrade to SHS or Sonar X1 Essentials for more inputs.

Thank you for your interest!  No, i didn't know that MC5 could only record only two inputs semultaneously. Soooo, thanks, what in the world am I trying this for anyway???  OK, I checked, and both alesis and the MC5 is using 44.1.  I'm going to give it another whirl according to your advice: that is, with a new project, and apply the  sampling rate, and see what happens.  Again, thanks for you adivice.

Ok. I went into options, but I could only do default via advanced. I still get the same error message.  Thanks for trying.

I assume the VIA is the computer's sound card?
In MC under Options>Audio, find the Drivers screen. If the VIA is listed and highlighted and the Alesis isn't, select the Alesis and deselect the VIA. Move the Alesis to the top. Do the same for Recording Device and Playback Device.
You can also disable the VIA in the computer's Device Manager, although that doesn't always take.

Sorry, what I meant by "via" is through.  I couldn't reset the default sampling rate in GENERAL; I had to go "through" the ADVANCED tab.

Anyway, the program does automatically select the ALesis drivers when I turn it on.  ANd I did check them--taking your advice--still getting the same error message I listed above.

Pragram works fine with my other interface (Digtech), just wanted to do the multitrack thing, but I guess MC only does two tracks anyway.  However, I would like to know what the problem is?  I'm thinking the driver is just not right--although, according to the ALesis website, it is the right one for my system???

what digitech device are you talking about?

having too many soundcard devices on your system is going to make things very difficult for you to get set up correctly.

make sure you have only the multimix selected in the drives section AND make sure only the multimix is selected in the RECORDING and PLAYBACK DEVICES in the OPTIONS>AUDIO

Were you also aware that for MC 5 to function correctly (maybe) on a 64-bit OS it has to be run in 32-bit compatibility mode? It's not 64-bit compatible.
Did you download, unzip and install the MC 5 update? The link for that is in one of the stickies at the top of the MC forum page.

Yes, they are the only ones selected.  When the other interface (digtech) is "not" plugged in the that driver does not show up at all: not in windows control panel nor in MC5.

I did update a few months ago.  I am aware of the 32 and 64 bit thing.  Sooo, I don't know about that, except the driver for windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit were in the same Alesis bundle/download?  Hmmm, maybe that is the problem, the computer used the wrong driver?  Got to think about this one.

you have to find that out from the alesis website.  and I can't do it for you to verify because alesis requires registration in order to see their downloads and I don't have any alesis products (and likely won't because I don't like their drivers or lack thereof) and so I'm not going to register on their site.

check their website - they likely DO have separate 32bit and 64bit drivers - most do.
