All I Can Be - Original Song & Video by me

Hey guys and girls,

I've just uploaded an original song/video to youtube. Link below:
http://youtu.be/VuCPNXubSyU

Essentially it's a praise/worship song about the freedom I have in Jesus to be who he created me to be. Obviously lyrically there are a few sub-themes etc but that's the main theme throughout.

I hope you enjoy this, obviously it gives more of an idea of my writing than the covers.

Please let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Chris.

Loved it, Chris. Better video, with you doing some performance at alast....but enough of you sitting down!

    That vocoder break was brilliant.

My only nit was the synth part should be backed off just a wee bit. Sounds like it got away from you a few times.

What vocoder bit?? ;) That's all harmony.

Thanks for the comment :) It's easier to sit down...I suppose it looks more 'rock' to stand up though. I like the synth. The issue was that I wrote the synth before the vocal, I suppose it could detract on occasion from the vocal but the problem with self production is that you get precious about things which sometimes clouds your judgement.

    Thanks again for watching/listening.

Chris, I in Annapolis, Md, a long way from Phoenix.  We're in a beautiful hotel with the slowest internet I've ever seen, and expensive.  I'm on my old laptop and I had to download the new Adobe flash and it still won't open the video. Aggravating.  I'll listen next week when I get home.

Awesome song, Chris!  Wow--great hook, great lyrics and of course great performances and video.  I rather like the synth (the counter-melody it's playing) and can see why you like it so much.  Perhaps it was a bit loud in places (JY always knows what he's talking about!), but it's cool.  Anyway, great job once again!

    Chris,
This is the first time I hear your music (haven't been around much).  I must say this is a great song.  Let me preface my comments by saying that I listened to your song on PC speakers so take this into consideraton.  My only crit is I'm not a fan of your snare sound.  It sounded like more of a thud and seemed dull.  I was expecting more of a crisp crack.  Just my own preference I guess.

Anyway, great message, lyrics and musicianship.  Oh!  I was impressed with the quality of the video.  How did you change into so many different shirts in such a short amount of time?

    Thanks for the comments :)

I appreciate the snare comment. I don't have the facility to record an under snare mic at the moment. I do like that sound for the song though. I suppose it's just personal preference.

Thanks again everyone for watching/listening and taking the time to comment :)

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Pretty darned good all the way around. I agree with jamesyoyo in that if you're going to do the video there should be more theater in it. Maybe wearing different costumes for each instrument? Maybe some kind of subtext/scene where the video tells a story? Maybe some Chroma Key magic?

Great production and mix. Playing and singing are great, too. The video is very good but agree with Chappel above that it needs more scenes in it other than music. Things that are related to the song.

Chris - That sounds really really good.   Excellent song, excellent vibe.  I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to give up things like the synth part that you wrote.   What you should experiment with is taking out the synth in a lot of parts like the verses.  Or do the first part of a verse with nothing but the vocals and drums, or Vocals bass and drums, then add pieces back in half way through the verse.  The song sounds really "full" the whole way through.  Try to break it up.  I went through the same thing and found once I started experimenting (taking precious peices out) the arrangements became more interesting and dynamic.  You can always have sections (like the chorus's) that are full on.

Overall - excellent job and I liked the video too.
