Starise - thanks much. The drums are Session Drummer 3 with compression on the kick and hyped EQ on the snare. On the slide playing, I didn't have a slide so I used a shot glass. It took awhile to get to play in tune. I always wanted to try this. bandontherun19 - thanks for the listen and and encouragement! Rimshot

Hi Rimshot, I like this a ton, and slide git with a shot glass = awesome. I like the production on this quite a bit, (and forgive me for this, I really dislike the kind of non-specific critique that I'm about to engage in) but I sort of feel like there is some warmth and presence that is lacking. It's tough to articulate, but I happened to A/B this with nonat's song "Any Way" (which is setting the bar pretty high) and there are some aspects of the big, present sound that he gets that would sound great on this track. Again, forgive the really general nature of that comment...really like the song. Dean

Enjoyed the song and the playing. No expert, therefore feel free to ignore, but personally I would pan the backing vocal just off of centre or spread it either side and loose some out of the centre. Just a tad more gain on the guitars would make it for me. Perhaps some air around each instrument would be cool too. Just me though I know not what I talking about, quite possibly. Thanks for sharing

Great track, perfect tempo. This song demands that it have a slow, sauntering feel to it and you nailed it. Everything sounds good and clear, but somehow still manages to evoke a dusty feel. While I am sure you could tweak eq and play with the pan knobs for days on end, you captured a feel and performance, and that's what really counts. Nice number. Cheers, Gary

Razorwit - Dean, thanks much. I will check out Nonat's mix and you are right - his bar is REALLY high! Hi Wookie - thanks for the listen. I did spread the BKG Vocs a about 11 and 1 o'clock positions so I am not sure why they don't sound that way. More air and level on the guitars is a good idea too. I am out of breath on this one right now but all these comments help alot. Hey bapu! - thanks for the listen. I thought of you as I mixed the bass (yikes, you are in my head now!) and tried to make sure I didn't muddy everything up. Seems to be good on my system and car but I am not happy with the synth bass sound. Did alot of limiting and EQ. I am never happy with how they sound! Hi Warren! Thank you for those nice comments! I did all the instruments and Heidi Holiday, who sings in our worship team, did the backgrounds. That was her second song going vocals in her career! I loved her tone. Gary - appreciate your comments and nice remarks. Thank you. Best to all. Rimshot

Nice stuff Jimmy! Vocals sound really good. Nice sliding playing...and on a shot glass to boot. I love slide, but just have never worked at it much myself. Maybe that needs to be my next adventure. I would not have guessed Session Drummer for the drums either. Guess I better give them a second look as well. Good work!!

Hi Mike - thanks for the listen and compliments. I think I used the Sizzle Kit 2 in Session Drummer 3 and I might have changed out the kick drum. I added some good mid and high end EQ to the snare. That was about it. I have BFDEco which I like but I can't get a great snare sound from the limited selection they offer and the cymbals don't sound as good as SD3 to my ears. I need to learn that software better. Rimshot

Rimshot bandontherun19 - thanks for the listen and and encouragement! Rimshot You don't realize what an accomplishment it is to "learn to play the guitar" if you did not do so from an early age... I've known many people who have tried and complained about it. It is not at all easy. Most of us guitar players have played most of our lives, so it's 2nd nature. I think one can learn to play the piano pretty easily. But the G-tar is another story... There's the whole right hand/left hand coordination thing, and the whole "it's hard to hit the note and not hit the note next to it?" And the whole, my fingers are numb, I don't like the way it feels? It is an impressive accomplishment, trust me. You have more coordination than most because you're a drummer so maybe that gave you a head start.

bandontherun19 - well stated. I have been around guitar players for 50 years (I started playing music in Elementary School). Later in life, I became a studio drummer, and then a signed act. Then later, was a recording engineer/producer for many years. I have worked with so many players in my life and really did learn alot by watching and many times directing them - even though I could not play well. Then, a couple of years ago, I decided to go for it. I am OK on rythm and have been working on leads. This forum has been a great proving ground for me. Some of the blues takes were numerous because not only are my fingers slow but I don't always remember the cool riffs I played. It would be great to have all the scales and riffs down so you could basically play what you thought. When I taught drums, I used to say "If you can say it, you can play it". Guitar is much harder in that regards because I can't speak that fast! LOL. Rimshot

Yes, I've played guitar for 40 years, and people like Danny, and Geere? I'll never play like them... There are people who have a special affinity for it. Then there are geniuses like Scotty Tunes. He's a true freak of nature (meant in a good way). Then there are the rest of us peasants :-) There are other guru's out there, batsbrew, Tanton, etc... But most of us are happy to get by :-) Hang in there, you are getting better! (I taught myself to play the keys 20 years ago, and I've gotten to where I can call myself a keyboard player :-)

jim.good tune man liked it. needs more slide though, the solos were regular picking type stuff and kinda just playing in the box bending 2 strings at a time. (nothing wrong with that though.)i just was wating for this slide lead to come in,perfect tune for it too. really enjoying your song writing latlely, you got a great style. who was singing back ups?..sounded like a chick in some spots, sounded really well too. oo ya,the keys were spuratic and placed perfectly as well. id love to take a rip at this song, slide and vocals. when i hear a song id like to play or sing,i know its good. it was just on the brink of a little long, nicely timed jimbo. keep up the good work.

Sounds good here, Jimmy. I like the whole thing. Just the right amount of twang on the gits. Your voice and Heidi's are perfect for this vibe. The keys plump it up nicely. I like what you've done with your slidework. A shotglass? Cool. I've been exploring slide lately, and have discovered a few things. Heavy glass slides(such as your shotglass) sound pretty good. My current favorite for the electrics is a very short but thick glass slide. On my accoustic guitars, I prefer the Dunlop "Harris" brass slide. Don't bother with thinwall steel slides. They don't have enough mass, and really kill the sustain. Get yourself a nice, fat glass slide. Slide is addictive, once you get the taste for it, and it sounds like you have that. Run with it. I'm working on a slide piece that I hope to have posted in the near future. It's a very different flavor than what you have here. Anyhow, I really like this.

Great performances and mix although I agree that the bass could stand out a bit more. Slide with a shot glass...reminds me of when I was in the P. I. playing Free Bird with a bottle of San Miguel beer as a slide. That was one heavy slide!
