All Sonar X1 Needs Now......

Is.......

A full featured sampler!!!!  Dimension Pro is an adequate rompler that has some cool, if not clunky, synth options but nothing even close to what a lot of the other DAW's offer or standalones ( Kontakt, ect. )  If your listening Cake, PLEASE make a full featured sampler so we can continue to pioneer our own unique sounds!!

How many more samples do you need?  It took me a couple of months just to organize the whole mess (with expansion packs).

I think I would pull my hair out if I had to hear any more sample sounds.

In fact whenever they give a new expansion pack with an upgrade I get a sick feeling like; oh now not this ______ again.

Most of the samples I do not care for.

However the synths can manipulate the sounds pretty well when you start to write your own programs.

By the time I learned the sounds and worked the programs I had just about went deaf.

Not saying you wouldn't want more - but I sure don't.

When Dimension Pro was first released it was close to the price of KONTAKT.
Thought it was a bargain when they dropped the price to $199. Then after only a point release upgrade (1.2 to 1.5), a couple of years later they give it away with SONAR Producer. Go figure!

Can't remember the last time I used it.

Having said that though, for someone who's just getting into the whole audio thing the SONAR Producer package is pretty complete with synths and fx plugins

Its not that X1 needs more samples, we have mountains of that stuff in either the included libraries or in other libraries that Dimension Pro can load.
Its about unique sound creation thats DIFFERENT from everything else out there. Trent Reznor, Steve Albini, Frank Serafine, Thomas Dolby, ect.. all created never before heard sounds that were unique and signature to them.  Sure, they could have just used off the shelf stuff and called it good and in the end, they would have sounded just like everybody else.

The point of original music is uniqueness and creativity, you remember right, the reason we all got into music to begin with??

There is a value in a new sound however I came into music because I liked the sound of the saxophone as a child. Not a new sound that unless one counts what I sounded like when I first started playing it. Many like the sound of the guitar so much so it inspired them to take it up and music. I don't know of anyone that took up music simply to make new sounds.

Sound design is an offshoot of sound FX. It only came into music as a force with electronic synthesis. Get Rapture or Z3TA 2 and make all the sounds you want. Also don't forget the Pentagon I synth.

I'm not sure the world needs another analog synth though.

DimPro is essentially 4 sfz.exe samplers in one.

The sfz.exe sampler is easy(er) to use and hugely capable, but it crashes Sonar if you have more than one instance running.

sfz.exe should be fixed. Just give it the engine fixes in DimPro.

Me, I prefer that Cakewalk creates instruments as separate products as I have no use for them and when I do use a virtual instrument, I find 3rd party products more to my liking.

    I think Cakewalk needs to keep perfecting the base product;

    +1

And if Cakewalk did come up with a sampler it would have to be a real "Kontakt killer" with extensive scripting (otherwise whats the point?) I think it would be best as a seperate product as the cost of development would be high and it would be a high ticket item. Then to be sucessful it would need third party developers to embrace it. This is where Kontakt wins hands down. Just look at the products put out by Orange Tree, Kirk Hunter, Hollow Sun, Sonokinetic, 8Dio and others. Breaking Kontakt's stranglehold is not an easy task.

I support DAWS having a core set of sounds included like drums, bass, strings, etc. In fact, I've always pushed for them to be better. We all may move on to other things but most of us start there. Some people don't move much outside of their chosen DAW for sounds and some are forced to because of what's on offer. You don't need a tonne of bells and whistles but ding dong pheep is always welcome.

Honestly, all Sonar needs now is to become STABLE. Have been using Studio One for 30 days now. Not a single crash or audio engine dropout. Still keeping X1 just in case. But it keeped either crashing or having the audio engine drop out in every session (and my computer is a brand new beast).

FWIW, That is a *HUGE* undertaking.
    The benchmark is Kontakt 5.
It would take several years of intense development to equal Kontakt 5.
It's a huge risk... in a tough economy.

Try SampleTank free or even jump on the $200 group buy for all of their products. I think that is a great way to go. I never understood why people want DAWs to include more internal instruments when they offer plug in hosting. Why not just go grab a plug in and get on with it. I personally wouldn't update Sonar just for more plug ins unless the upgrade price was incredible. I'd just buy a plug to do the job

As much as i would love a full featured sampler, i doubt Cakewalk could produce something along the lines of Kontakt without jacking up the price.  the people who keep mentioning Dimension Pro don't seem to get that there is a big difference between sample playback synths and samplers.  Yes, with A LOT of patience and workarounds, one could recreate a good chunk of the functionality of a full featured sampler, but you would have no hair left by the end of the day. Simply creating g a drum kit from scratch would require serious sfz file authoring.  For music genres where one is likely to use the same kit consistently, that is not a bad option.

It is stable. I find it the most stable DAW I own. I have Reaper, Studio One and FL Studio. They are all stable for the most part but X1 is the most stable for me.

I also used the trial of Cubase 6.5 recently it was also stable but no more so than X1.

For example double clicking on ProChannel will not crash X1 on my system.

In the webinar that was just done by Brandon and Seth an entire session was done with X1 and no crashes. If it were unstable could such a thing be done?

The notion that X1 is unstable is bogus.

There are many reasons a DAW crashes. More likely its either a driver or a weak hardware component in the system as the root cause. It is not always the software.

It seems to me that a person that paid good money for a product and it is crashing on them would seek tech support from the developer to find a fix. Complaining in a thread asking for a sampler seems a waste of time and forum space as well as misinformation.

    You're very lucky, man!
I have FL Studio and works good (I have to wait for Cakewalk's softsynths into a project when I load it but after this no problem at all, all seems stable)....
I have Cubase LE 5, stable (no more details because I don't like it so much)....
I have Reaper and Studio One Free, two jewels of stability, Reaper expecially!
I have Sonar X1....damn, it crashes! Crash, crash....a lot of crashes!!!!

Sometimes it crashes for very stupid reasons: when I click on the keyboard symbol on the track to adjust impostations for a loaded VSTi, when I load Dropzone, when I load a very big Dimension Pro preset.
    Man, it crashes!

I think those that do have issues with X1 need to read how others don't have issues. It is not across the board that people are all finding problems. In my view that is backed up with what has been posted on this forum and shows that the ones having problems are a minority that seem very vocal.

Besides if you do have stability issues wouldn't it be far more productive for you to contact CW directly and see if a fix is possible? After all that is what tech support is for.

Posting here on a thread that is not about bugs, problems or issues is being off topic and a great waste of your's and others time.

    John, I know.
But I've finally found the problem in my case: the audio card.
X1 has serious problems of compatibility with my UA-25EX: maybe it's a broken one?
This can be the primary problem but honestly I don't think this, because all the programs can find the ASIO UA25-EX drivers without problems and without any problem of audio stability, X1 don't.

But I think that with a new soundcard all these problems must be forgotten....or, at least, I hope.

For now Sonar works good with ASIO4ALL drivers....I hope for the future.
I really love X1 P.E., a real jewel of professional audio environment.

That interface should work very well indeed. I would call Roland or even CW tech support to get this problem worked out.

If ASIO4ALL is working something is really screwed up on your machine.

    Have you tried WaveRT drivers?

ASIO4ALL is using the WDM driver...
@OP: Try switching driver mode to WDM/KS

Sure sounds like a system config issue...

What I really would like to see, is the ability to bounce a MIDI clip, or a selection of MIDI notes into audio clips instead of having to bounce entire MIDI tracks.

I also really would love to see the return of Roland VSC, or similar GS-compatible MIDI wavetable synths as an upgrade to Cakewalk TTS.
