test this, simply load a project and insert the Sonitus Delay into an fx bin. (You may already have a project like this) Now hold down the space bar with something and veiw your memory manager (In Win7 goto Task Manager/Performance Tab and watch your memory drain away.)

Man!! Im not gonna do that sh*t...

on the serious side this is good to know, and does have me concerned.  thanx for posting..

Quick question! I have 8.5 discs. I just downloaded the 8.0 sonitus delay file from the forum. What is the most painless way of installing this file. I am running 8.5.3 and X1, all 32 and 54 bit versions.

Now hold down the space bar with something and veiw your memory manager

What does holding down the space bar do in this instance?
As you know, the space bar starts/stops the transport.  The memory leak causes about 3k of RAM to be lost each time the transport is started/stopped.

By holding down the space bar you invoke "key repeat" and thus speed up the leak, making it visible on the memory use graph in windose task manager.

I don't think your ability at snooker or pool is relevant to your forum title, but with some of the changes in X1 it wouldn't suprise me.

Thanks for the heads up!

The .dll file is only relevant for the VST version, am I right? Does't this mean that the DX plugin does not have this problem? I'm pretty sure most of my Sonitus Delay instances are DX.

Memory leaks are nasty little buggers as they tend to corrupt memory that has been allocated to another process.

So not only can you be loosing "unused" memory, but you have the potential to rewrite memory that another task needs.

I have the Sonitus delay on some projects and it constantly leaks memory, not just when you start and stop.

This is a known issue shortly after 8.5 (or 8.5.3 I can't remember) came out. But what I do remember is there were some users po'd because CW never addressing this or fixing it. IIRC

It only happens with 64bit systems. IIRC

Okay, it's true that it would take a lot of start/stops used in a "normal" way to kill Sonar.  BUT, it also takes memory away from other things you may wish to load, and to put this into perspective again, you will never reach anywhere near the amount of free memory you have because Sonar crashes long before (as if only a dedicated, smaller area of the memory was being addressed and when that's full ... BINGO).

I manage to crash it after only about a minute - I was expecting much longer because the memory depletion was nowhere near the total amount shown on screen.

Apart from that (and most important), it the 8.0 version did not do this, so why should we accept it in 8.5 upwards ?

I was sure it was 64b only. Do you hav the ddl version from X1 or 8.5?

Here is my reasoning:
It was fine in 8.0
Went bad in 8.5
Getting worse now in X1?

But I remember the same comments and uproar/displeasure from users. No one was happy. And I forgot who it was that found you could revert back to 8.0 dll version. It was a user for sure.

I have X1 (and tested on this) and have replaced the 3.3.4.whatever with the 3.3.3.whatever from SONAR 8.0 PE disks (just copying over the .dll file into the folder did not work for me, so I got the disk out as suggested by the OP).  I don't know if it is getting worse in X1, as I was not aware of the problem before today (and I don't use the Sonitus Delay THAT much).

Is the Sonitus Delay  FX issue causing the Runtime Error C++? Because that's what shows up when the program crashes in both X1 as well as 8.5.3....just curious... Also...why do  X1 bugs affect 8.5.3?  It's like somebody burned the lifeboats

and yes...it also seems to be happening is Vista 32bit!

Im 32 bit XP pro and iot was happening. The fix worked.

When editing and recording vocals I often do TONS of starts stops, lots of fast ones.

i can totally see this being a crash culprit I would get after a while sometimes on 8.5.3.

I am very grateful for the 8.0 DLL file find that doesnt leak.

Just answered my own Question...I only had the Sonar 7 disc on hand...8.5 disc is snugly tucked away at home..but the re-install of the sonitus fx delay also works off of 7 as well....will bring in 8 after the holiday..that is unless the Caker's come up with the fix patch between now and then.... I hope ...I hope..I hope!

Eurika! I found this on an old IBM Post.....bug could cause this kind of runtime error? Possibly a memory leak somewhere? ... Usually such an error is the result of memory corruption somewhere in the program.....
Which may very well explain this Sonitus Fx Delay issue!!! So what is it in X1 that's causing the memory leak in the Sonitus Delay? I've been screaming about the runtime error showing up since I installed X1..and I've been using a Template that I created with all the vocal effects pre-patched...Including the Sonitus FX delay for the lead vocals...and it consistantly crashed. No crashes yet....(knocking on wood til my knuckles bleed!!!  lol!)
