All That Mattered

Hi All,
You gave such great advise on my mix of 'The Dream' that I had to come back for more!

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=972363&content=music

Another new one, "All That Mattered" - i'm looking for any mixing tips, anything that doesn't sound like it fits?  I feel like i've worked on it so much that i'm in need of an outside view.

Thanks in advance!

Matt/Slug

PS.  I'm going away for the Canadian long weekend, so if I don't respond until Monday, don't think i don't care.

I love it... I think a slide guitar would really shine in this song. It reminds me just a little of some of Victor Krummanacher's songs (Monks of Doom) though they are all mostly full band tracks. I hear the same "from the heart" vibe. Good work.

Thanks!  I might lower the volume on the chorus vocals, but other than that i'll mark it 'done'.

And with 2 quite different songs worked out for mix and overall eq, i might have a decent reference for the other 8...

Now this is the definition of a solemn tune.  Very pure. I love that vintage sounding electric guitar. Very nice, Matt. Lots of really good stuff going on in this song.  The moaning is just the icing on the cake!

This one definitely grows on you with each listen.
I like the texture of the different guitars, and I love that "Clint Eastwood" clean electric with the flanger.
Even the drums play into the theme.
I'm not hearing anything that detracts from the well conveyed artistic statement. I'd say lock 'er down.

Thanks guys!  Positive feedback from you two means A LOT.

PS.  that 'flanger' is actually just tremolo on a telecaster, and a send to a slapback delay.

I really like this, it has a Pink Floyd type of vibe to it IMO.

    Excellent Work!!!

    Thanks Bob.
Strange - both songs i've posted have received Pink Floyd references.  I do like PF, but can't see the comparison.  Still, it's a compliment.

Very nice evocative song, Matt, and the treatment feels just right for it.  I'd have to agree with Robert: I think you've nailed it down.  Good job!

I like it. Think it might be dragging on a little though. If 5:00 minutes, you should be giving the listener something new or interesting or something. I thought it was done and fading out and another verse etc comes in. The song was done.

    Thanks Phil and Tim.
Tim, i think i see where you're coming from on that.  That mid-section makes a solid ending, but i wasn't done saying what I had to say.  Besides, i'm in no rush to finish playing it (every time i sing or strum it, the song always ends too soon).

great song! not gonna mention PF, i think the comparison comes from the use of the minor chords more than anything. i think our very own Distant Towers is an equally valid comparison. Vocals are good! overall mix could be a little brighter i think, and it sounds a little dry, a bit of verb on the acoustic and more on the vox might help a little. very cool work though!
