All These Things

This is a remake of an older song.... maybe 10 to 12 years ago when I wrote this. I decided to update it a bit.

It is Christian Country music.... I'm playing the bass and acoustic guitars (4 tracks) and singing (5 tracks) the rest is... you guessed it ...samples.

https://www.box.com/s/wm4h18ug8pyxcub5bf6w

OR

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12328647

The final mix on this was done in headphones..... (I have my reasons)

Any way... hope you enjoy it.

    This is classic Hacker :-)

My favorite from you is still the one you sent me, I am still planning on covering it :-) But I don't want to do a tribute version, I think I'll  just use  the words and melody, and do my own version of it, it's such a great tune IMO.  If you think you're gonna fall? Fall down on your knees... Call out to the master, Jesus rescue me. It's really a great song.

I don't see it on your soundclick page? I just looked for it.

Thanks Robbie..... yes you are right..... I had actually recorded these songs.... about 12 of them , to a CD and played a few churches back around that same time.

I used Cakewalk Pro 8 Deluxe on the original recordings  .... no soft synths in the originals.... BUT... this is recorded with X1e

I was looking through my lyric book and came across these tunes..... there is about 4 of them that I felt might be worth redoing..... Fall Down is one of them.  This was also one of them.

Feel free to record your version of Fall Down. I did remove them all from the net.... do you need a version of it? I can throw a quick version together and email it.

Nice tune Herb.  Great lyrics and very well done.

I am in Vegas, getting up early in the morning to start putting in a trade show.  I saw this and thought I would give it a quick listen before I hit the sack.  Glad I did.

Great song. Great sound and great vocals and nicely mixed.

You say you used samples. I'm guessing pedal steel, fiddle and drums.

I've been looking for samples in the country genre. Can you tell us which package you are using. Thanks for a great song

Optimus.... Check out www.pgmusic.com it is the package I use for many of the samples. Not cheap but very realistic. I bought it several years back specifically for the steel guitar since there was nothing else even close on the market short of live players.

Guitarhacker.... You are refering to Band in a Box. I have it, but have never had much success with the loops.

I assume that you first insert the chords that you want, and then select your instrument to play those chords, and then edit till you get the phrase you want.

I would appreciate if you could you explain your process in a little more detail.

    Cheers

It's the dark side of the force... It is enticing? But it is evil...

Especially for a musician as talented as Hacker? And with as many contacts? He'll tell you it's just a tool?

Well I've been called a tool too? It may have been in a different context, but "whatever."

My "personal" belief is that talented musicians, should represent their art, and if needed use other talented musicians? With that said, Mr. Hacker does produce some excellent results using "the dark side of the force..."

But it's still the dark side "IMO."

yes, from the PGmusic Real Band tracks.  Someone once commented that he could "hear the rosin on the bow" of the fiddle.

Thanks Scotty.... I thought the same thing about guitar samples for acoustic..... my early attempts to record a nice acoustic were disastrous.... the samples sounded OK but they were way too easy to spot from a mile away...... A better mic, a new Taylor, and new strings goes a long way toward capturing decent acoustic.

    Herb,

Great song and production.   I like how you integrate BIAB into your songs.   I have used it a few times and know that it isn't as easy as just plugging in chords and generating parts, you have to know what you are doing.  You definitely know what you're doing.   Nice work.  Sounds amazing and great message......

This has a very classic sound, early 60s country.  Good lyrics.  This fits your voice well.

Nice mix with the samples, well chosen.

Nice tune Herb. This would have gotten a standing ovation and brought a few tears to the faces of some in the old church I was raised in. Never has been exactly my cup of tea but I do appreciate it for what it is and your abilities in doing it both at the mixing end and in the guitar pickin'.
