John,

After reading your intention for the thread, I feel your thread title is vague and misleading. If you wanted to help people find things, reflect that in the title. If you want to prove that nothing has been removed, maybe that should be the title. Asking a loaded question and then arguing (however civilized) your point against the responder is not really all about helping others.

I answered the question and posted "things" that were "removed" - a list which you dismissed through semantics and interpretation. I still challenge you to tell me how to do some of those things, since there is in fact, not one in X1. For example, you simply cannot have a separate snap setting in PRV and TV. If you think that is a cosmetic change only, you obviously never use the feature. For a second example - you actually cannot read assignable controls in the synth rack if you assign more than 20 to any instrument - they scroll off monitor in one long hideous row and there is not a single thing you can do to see them all - it really is a removal of function. I cannot see controls that are there. And so on for other points in my list.

I had no idea when I posted that you would then re-qualify your question and call my honest response a misrepresentation because what you had really meant was "list non-cosmetic things as interpreted by me". At the moment I feel like you obviously had an agenda other than the thread title, and I really feel like this thread is more about you proving your point than it is about helping people out. So I will agree to bow out of the thread.

I will look forward to your opinions of X1 when you upgrade.

Of course I have an agenda. I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't. You are free to leave this thread if you wish. You also have every right to post your thoughts here and disagree with me on any point. If however you think I have engaged in deceptive practices you are mistaken.  This forum is a dialog between Sonar users with each one having the same rights and obligations. I have no power greater then anyone else. What you see as a feature removed I see a different way to do something.

I have explained more then once what it means to me to say a feature is no longer available and a change in the way one goes about activating that feature.

You say you miss the save button. I wont, why? I never used it ever. I always used save as. I wanted a save as button. I couldn't care less about a missing save button. We each have very different needs and wants. What you think is a negative to me may be a positive. None the less I was able to save as any time I wanted. If save was the only option then it would be very different.

There is a huge distinction between those here that have deliberately deceived me by proclaiming that X1 does not have the features that were in Sonar 8.5.3.

People may have been put off by that and not looked into it as I have. I sure was at fist. Those people have been given bad information no matter how well intentioned it may have been. They could be uninterested in X1 now and will not upgrade because of what posters are saying. That is not going to be the case due to this thread nor will people upgrade due solely to this thread.

I think I have been clear what this thread is about. But to restate it it is about countering invalid information and misrepresentation.

I didn't go on anyone's thread and post contrary info out of not knowing what the facts really were. Now I have a much clearer picture about that thus this thread.

Yeah, that's my current GUI redesign objection. For example, instead of Volume and Pan symbols, we now have text saying Volume and Pan.

There's a button on the track headers that says custom by default with a drop down menu. Select all and you get all the controls back in the header.

Screensets are your answer yorolpal. Once set up you can have different snap to settings, instantly accessible at the press of a button

Plus you can save them to one of the screenset buttons.

Have CW promised it'll be fixed or did I dream that?

They're re-instating the ability to rearrange the order of tracks, but don't know about anything else.

Why's it such big deal if you can do it in the track veiw?

Since it seems like you have much free time, being on the forums an all.... why not download X-1, use it for a bit, then make a new thread with your thoughts?

It would be safe to say that most of us would appreciate it!!

John, it has been mentioned twice that independent snap to grid settings for PRV and TV have been removed. If indeed they havent and they are hidden ANYWHERE could you please tell me where...Ill upgrade tomorrow if you show them to me. Not having them sounds like a "different way to work" or a feature "removal"?

WE HAD INDEPENDENT SNAP SETTINGS FOR TV AND PRV.

Implying that no feature has been removed IS bad information IMHumblestO

edit: changing snap settings via screen sets is a different way of working - BUT it doesnt restore the feature of "independent snap to grid settings for PRV and TV". No matter if anyone thinks that the current way is better, easier, or faster" - its still NOT independent. Mind you, not EVEN that (snap settings follow/obey screensets) is mentioned ANYWHERE in the manual. It was discovered by luck here in the forum

how about custom colors and a floatable large transport?

I kind of like the new transport, everything I used is right there without popping up the large transport.

It may be a bug. I am reading very odd reports about this issue. Some have confirmed this behavior. What seems to be happening is it in fact is independent but if one uses 16th notes it recombines to the global snap to grid setting. If this is true, and I think it is, its a bug that needs to be reported as such.  Clearly I can neither confirm or deny it not having X1 at present.

Check out Mod Bod's thread on it here.

@John

In this case then, we will have the historical moment of a software user that WISHES his favourite software has indeed a bug.

I WISH this all is only a bug and in the future we WILL have independent PRV and TV snap to grid settings.

;)

edit: just saw the link, oh trust me there isnt ONE thread relevant to "snap" I havent read! ;) In that one I have also posted! ;)

I wish Sonar X1 was the samwe, but they went backwards in allot of area's. Now I can only see 2 at the most, instead of the 4 in Sonar 8.5

This seems to be great example of a missing feature... any way to display more than 2 sends?

LOL That is funny. I don't know if it is or not but considering all those that want it to work independently I also hope its a bug.

The setup and lists of commands has changed so lets work on finding the rearrangement of commands before we start jumping down each others throats. If John was any more polite in response to some your attitudes I'd have to slap him for being a bi**h.

Why not reference the Post where Scott Garrigus clearly states that Snap to Grid is now global? Then you might discuss the possibility of using Screen sets, or RBowsers work around.
The manual seems to say otherwise. Don't forget Scott didn't have it either.

Mike no one has had the manual until just recently. This includes Scott.

In case no one knows this I do not at present have X1. Nor do I have X1a. I don't even have the hot fix for X1a.

Below is from the manual page 683.
• Use separate Snap to Grid settings in the Clips pane mode and Inline Piano Roll mode

Yes, you described perfectly what's happening for me - note length and Grid are independent until a 16th note is chosen in PRV, then the "Universal Grid" changes.

Here's the vid posted on Mod Bod's thread:

PRV and Grid

You can see me choosing different note lengths, and then things get messed up once I go to 16th notes.  It becomes totally confusing what the relationship is between PRV and Grid, with the Grid halving its snap value sometimes, and at other times, changing to match the PRV value exactly.

Other people on that thread don't seem to have this problem - I can't figure out what the differences are between what I'm doing and what they're doing.  Am I the only person this is happening to?

But there are many posts about the Grid and its relationship to the PRV - exactly what it's all about is rather murky, since the behavior doesn't seem consistent from user to user.  But we've all seen posts talking about how the 16th note resolution is involved with another issue - the Grid reverting to that when a project is open again.

Confusing stuff, with several reported problems possibly being related.

I suspect they will "fix" the Snap To Grid's behaviour back to like it used to be...separate in the TV and the PRV.  That is how so many of us work it doesn't make sense to leave it as it is.  The best solution now, I think, is this:  Remember that the musical time Snap setting in the Control Bar sets only the grid resolution in the PRV.  So if you have it set to say, measure, then you can only enter one note per measure in the PRV.  If you use the Tool Hud by pressing T while in the PRV you can select a musical time which sets the note value of notes entered.  So...if you wish to enter 4 16th notes in the first beat of a measure in the PRV you will need to have your Control Bar Snap setting at either 32nd or 16th and your Tool Hud setting at 16th.  Etc...etc...etc... you can do the math.  It's really not as convoluted as it sounds and very easy once you get used to it.  But, geeze-louise I hope they fix this.

I don't think so Randy. I believe that as soon the GUI is sorted by the user base and people really understand how and where to do things it will be made more clear. Remember you and others are pioneers that have jumped into this very quickly. It will take some time before all the fallout is done. I hope it is fixed soon.
