Allan Holdsworth still uses an Atari ST with Cubase 3
I enjoyed watching this video of Holdsworth in his home studio. Getting along a little in years now, and it was sad to read in the comments that his health has deteriorated and he struggles to play these days, but it does look like he's musically active going by the set up he has in this studio. Couldn't believe he still has an Atari ST in there, running Cubase 3, which he says is absolutely rock solid and NEVER crashes! LOL!

Hi, Nice to see someone not showing off another Gibson, or Fender ... I think that's a Steinberger ... and I wonder if anyone else here actually plays a headless guitar. Daevid Allen used to say that they "hold" much better and the sustains are smoother. His was a Hohner. Nice to see an oldie but goodie still working ... the program was so much simpler then to use ... nowadays, it's insanely crazy and no one uses 75% of the DAWS, I bet!

Yes , I play a headless guitar ...I've been playing this one for the past 30 years ...I still use it and play it ... I'm using a pic w my old rig to keep this in context w the thread .... BTW James , this is the Bad Boy I used on Red Dress Blues and a number of other tunes folks thought I played a Tele on all the best, Kenny

My best midi studio rig ever was an Atari 1040 running Master Tracks Pro and driving a room full of Kb's and modules. I remember spending almost $500 for the software and it came on a single 3.5 floppy. Anyone remember playing midi maze on the Atari? I think it was the first FPS I can remember on a computer and a bucket full of fun. We used to get a half dozen guys together and network our computers using the built in midi ports.

Great video, thanks for putting it up. The sax player in my old band played with Holdsworth in Level 42. When asked what he was like to play with, all he would say was that he was a miserable b+-?@#%, and was a real downer on the tour. I always felt that it was probably because he was playing in Level 42. Good band, but probably not where Alan wanted to be. I think it helped pay the bills, though. I am sure that many of us have been there at some point (playing music we don't like just to earn money, not touring with Level 42, that is). I still try to do it with a smile, though. edited for clarity

There's an old (early 80's?) video clip of him being interviewed on YouTube where he talks about how lame it would be to release singles just to get airplay, and then you attract all of these pop fans to your gigs and disappoint them by playing your "artier" stuff (at least I think that's what he was getting at). I couldn't help but think of Level 42 when he said that. I think Holdsworth is probably like me, a miserable b******** when forced into close proximity with people I don't necessarily want to hang out with.

I like those and the higher up models ... Once upon a time I could play one of those and look pretty good ... Then time took it's toll and I got fugly and put on a few pounds ... The verdict is in ... No way am I ever gonna walk out on a stage to play guitar looking like a fat long bearded mountain man humping a tree twig .. batsbrew

If you look on ebay you can find a solid brass Ibanez guitar. Perfectly functional but it weighs 76 lbs and they want about $25k for it. Just because you can build it, doesn't mean you should.

Daevid Allen's (GONG) was a Hohner very similar to this one ... and he was a twig, very tall, and sometimes with a beard and long hair ... I think he meditated too much to get fat!

Hi Pedro, I'm only playing around . I'm just over here having some fun being somewhat of a coffee house a$$clown I happen to like Steinberger guitars a lot . I have talked to Ned a number of times when I was selling his guitars at Manny's Music ...I have always wanted to buy one ...I happen to love the models that come with trans trem ... I have played the Alan Holdsworth model plenty of times and I thought it was rather nice ... The cost has been somewhat out of my league for sometime unless I want to sell off a few things... I happen to like The Hohner at least on paper since I haven't played one ... I see them from time to time going for around 4 bills ...they are not much more money new ....time will tell ... Hey Man I need to get back into Lobsang Rama have a good one , Kenny

Hi, There was an article that appeared in one of those electronic keyboard magazines, and it was about 30 years ago, and had to do with Edgar Froese. They had with Tangerine Dream, something like 10 Apple computers running, to help produce certain effects and then after a few tours of nothing but hassles with the computers, some one asked Edgar what happened, since now they had one more synthesizer instead of computers. His joke went something like this ... "we and the music, were faster and better than the computers ... those Model T's were done!" When you consider that these days, all those keyboards, are just another computer ... times have changed!
