Allan's Resolve

Drums are by Brent Dacus.

a melodic rock instrumental...
inspired by A. Holdsworth's efforts to stay true to his music, thru the years, even in spite of starvation!

nothing about this song was an attempt to sound or play LIKE allan.....
it was simply my song ABOUT allan!

he was simply the inspiration of the song.

Bat, didn't you post this a couple of weeks ago? Is this a remix? In any event, it's certainly good enough to merit another listen. Tremendous guitar tone, I love it. And some exceptional skill on your part, wonderful playing. Brent's drums are terrific. And a good mix to boot. What's not to like?

Incidentally, the tone and style both remind me a little of Dean Parks, especially the work he did on Walter Becker's solo album.

    i apologize.
    feel free to ignore.......

otherwise, i'll respond to any questions....

    mcourter-
not a remix.....tho, i'm real tempted to do some different drum treatments....
dean parks, don't hear THAT name batted around too often, but i love all of his work.

    What's up!!!

Great song!!! And I agree with you about the drums...there is no depth to them...especially the snare...

sounds like its heavily squeezed..verb on the snare would sound nice!!!

    Peace!!!

    Great composition!!!

    You're UP!
    LOL

    hey, thanks for listening....

i'll tell you, in MY monitors, there's tons of depth to the drums..
they don't stand out and hit you over the head like typical modern 2007 recordings....
i was going for something with more dynamics, something that was more engaging to the ear...
but, i've missed the mark before, it's possible i've done that here as well.....

there's very little compression on any of the drums.... i might have mixed them down to a stereo pair, and put a multiband across the sub mix, i can't remember now.
it'd be worth the experiment, to go back and mix them hotter, and without any compression, just to see how they sit.
i didn't get to record the drums, they were done at another studio, so the individual tracks i don't have any control over...
i did place an ambient reverb over the whole kit....
it sounded too fake, with only reverb on the snare....
made it sound like the drum set was in one room, and the snare was in another!
    LOL

but, drums are key in this song, i gotta try to get em dialed in!
    thanks for the suggestions!

    a melodic rock instrumental...

    batsbrew,

Love the tune. Personally, I wouldn't change anything. The drums are mixed fine IMO. Great work.

You know how I am!!! As a drummer, I like the drums to stand out like any other instrument!!

Just like anything else, its an opinion...Your happiness is all that counts...

I just like my drums more bombastic!!!!

Most drums you hear on anyones compositions on this forum usually lack substance...

Mostly because of being mid generated...Those that usually sound good are "real" drums....

My main grip is the length of the snare note...It sounds cut-off as though it was heavily taped,

    padded, too much moongel, something...

But as always, composition, playing and all are great!!!

    You make me sick!!!

    Peace!!!

    thanks TC3!

    man, i hear you!!
    LOL
    i love kicking drum tracks..
and i'm always tempered by listening to classic recordings, versus the modern method.

i'm always second guessing my live drum mixes..... so i will probably try again with this one.

    thanks for the input!
