Alpha track or FaderPort?

I am considering buying single channel control strip. I have Sonar Platinum. I know the alpha track is no longer made, but like the led track indicator...

Opinions?

I can't speak for the Alpha Track but I've had the Faderport for a while now and it works nicely. I even plugged it into one of the usb busses on the X-touch and use it as a kind of break out controller since my desktop is L shaped.

I've never used an AT ... I've had a FaderPort for a while an really like it.  Make sure you set it up with AZ Controller

If you can find a great deal on one, the Roland V-Studio 100 is hard to beat.  Along with the DAW controller functions, it has a full-fledged audio interface with Roland's Capture series technology. And since it was made by Roland (when they owned CW) it uses ACT for tight integration with Sonar.

No longer in production, but no worries, has Win 10 support!

That's a decent price if you're also in the market for an audio interface. Otherwise, if you're not in a hurry, it's bound to show up again somewhere at a cheaper price.  I snagged one a couple of weeks ago in mint condition for $100!

I have an alpha track. I rarely plug it in. I do use the touch screen.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Never did that, but my FaderPort works perfectly in SONAR Platinum, Reaper 5.x, Studio One Pro 3.x and Mixbus 3.

Wow, did not know there were that many users of Fader Port.  Transport controls work as designed?  And Automation?  I would primarily use it for automation writes (especially volume).  But if the transport controls work, the space bar of my keyboard would get a lot less use!

Well, saved my pennies and got a refurbished one...
I have written a volume automation with it.  I can see the fader move in the software when I move the physical fader.  Same with Pan.  Transport works OK. I haven't tried punching in or recording.

The only thing (so far) I can't seem to get to work is the motorized fader.

Is there some kind of magic you have to do to get that to work?

Maybe it's firmware, considering you have a refurb

Make sure you have enabled key aftertouch and channel aftertouch in preferences. The power supply also needs to be connected for the motorized fader to work. I would also close and re-open Sonar after you edit the preferences.

Not sure if anyone pointed this out, but the motorized fader won't work off port power, it's gotta have the wallwart plugged in.

First thing I did was update Firmware...I will check, but it said it was successful.
Wall wart is indeed plugged in.  I will try another outlet though.
