Already own producer 8, just looking for a controller
Has anyone heard if Cakewalk will be selling a standalone version for those of us who own the software and a audio interface, but are looking for a controller. I would definatly buy the v-studio controller, but I dont want the interface or a second copy of the Sonar software.
Any thoughts?

They will have to, that I'm sure of.
It'll be just a matter of time.
I'm hoping for a late 2009 release of a standalone v-700c. That's just wishful thinking though. I guess 2010 is more realistic.
That being said we know the v-700c does work in standalone!
So you could of course buy the bundle and sell the v-700r and Sonar.
That's not the most elegant way I admit.
I don't want to go through that trouble either.
Either way I still have to wait, saving up for the control surface of my dreams. :)

If v-700 does well they'll probably break things off and modularize it. Cake has said they don't talk about future plans.
But I'd love to have just the controller, tho my bank acount would be happiest with just the channel/ACT contoller third of the V-700 and a single fader. Yamaha makes ta Stienberg specific controller like that for -$500. I imagine Roland could sell a boatload of such hardware, esp. if you could keep adding faders, etc.

My guess is they'll modularize too.
The 700c is just plain awesome.

I think it is more likely to sell the controller seperately if the VS 700 does NOT do well. If it is doing very well. . . .why leave money on table? It would be smart to break it up now rather than waiting for the buzz to wear off etc.

I very much thought so too !
I expect V-700 to do well, but not well enough to keep it unmodularized for more than a year or a year and a half.

Grent, it was probably designed when the economy was doing far better. Although I can see it being split into small parts.. as some people don't want to change their audio interface etc.

Brandon hinted that the v700 was one of a series (hense the numbered name), but no one in the know has mentioned any specific product. One would think it would be easy to cut out features, but some people want more faders, others less, and no one seems to want the synth (well, almost no one). I would think they would divide it into thirds - an ACT/plugin section, fader section and master section.
I like the idea of an ACT section like the Yama/Steinberg controler unit. -$500 and the knobs and fader to control a single channel. but that is because I'm a cheap bastard and would think that would sell like hot cakes, esp. if you could add a fader section. Esp. if it was universal, not Cake specific (and I bet Yama is working on that right now).
IF the v700 doesn't sell well, Roland may just decide to cut thier loses and not spend the money to retool. If it does, the investment may look better considering the current ecomonic environment.
