Alt/rock/pop song Hoping to get some feedback

Long time no post (I lurk trying to learn). I'm having the same eq problems as I always have--my tunes sound alright on my cell/ipod when I tweak the eq.  The rock settings usually sound best.

I was hoping to get some feedback/advice on the mix.  The song is called "Take," it's an odd sort of song I guess, typical of what I write- it's classified as alternative rock, but really it's piano/guitar/key synth /drums/bass with my typical odd vocal delivery.

Thanks and take care

Sounds a bit Bowie-ish vocal-wise and that's good.  I was expecting a little more instrumentation and build-up in the song -some swirling sounds to augment the vocals.  Just a thought.

hey dude, pretty good song in a Nick Cave/Leonard Cohen downbeat sorta way. The vocals are really good, at first I thought there was a little too much reverb on them, but it works. the instrumentation is all a little polite, and there is no sense of dynamics (what's the verse, what's the chorus? i don't know because the music doesn't change)drums aren't badly programmed but the music doesn't follow what they are doing, maybe look at not just having the guitars playing eighths all the way through, but altering that; the weird reverby synth sound use more sparingly; add something extra in the chorus, such as harmony vox, an organ, some strings, heavier guitars, whatever, to tell me that is the chorus! then put a little break in the middle, could be a solo, a key change, a tempo shift etc. the mix needs a bit of work too but if i were you i'd record another version of this with some of these ideas first. one thing, you have a good voice and some good hooks, and you CAN'T buy those!

For some reason I start to think of Bruce Springsteen's 'Streets of Philadelphia'... Which is a song I really like!

I thought your singing is good, I really like the track and the simplicity of it. What I miss is a tighter mix. Slightly more compression on the vocals to push them forward and really bring out the texture of your voice would be absolutely awesome. The drums could be slightly tightened up. Snare ghostis are cool but the kick could be more consistent/straighter beat, deeper and more up front. Perhaps a loop of sorts could make it a little more forward moving. The beat disappears a little at times. The Organ thing I absolutely love! But I think there could be room for some subtle bass or something in the low end, maybe just some long tones of a synth or electric bass to lift the organ thing. At least in parts of the song. JMO

All in all, I really liked this tune and I will definitely check out your other stuff as well.

Hey thanks for the replies.  Yeah, I admit this is kinda simple - initially I had three guitars, the organ, and strings plus bass/drums but decided to strip it down.

Mgh, you mentioned the organ should have been used more sparingly but I was thinking it wasn't up enough, so I'll have to look at that.  In terms of the format/style or whatever you wanna call it, I admit there is no chorus, or bridge for that matter, or probably even "verses" per se-- it's all kinda like a run on sentence- a song that sort of builds and builds and then there's...nothing.  I kinda like it the way it is, but I'll take your advice into consideration.  I've been trying lately to get away from the whole verse chorus verse chorus bridge verse and then 6 choruses thing.

Project M I'll have to check out the low end and the kick--I know the kick changes here and there and I agree it could be a bit tighter.

Oh and Abel thanks for your comments and pulling this one off page 2 or 3.  I don't bump my threads if no one comments, so thanks.

    Thanks again

    Anthony
