Always Got Jack ft. Herb/Warren/Mark C.
This is a Country Rock Collab that went thru many transformations. At one point, I felt that something was missing and thought it could use some fiddles. Herb Hartley (guitarhacker) was happy to oblige and I believe Will fell so hard in love with those fiddles, it made me jealous! (haha! just kidding juju bugg-well, no, not really) Warren's edgy vocal adlibs gave it that extra oomf but Mark's guitar also kept the "roots" it still needed. In the end, Will reworked what I called the sexy Mellencamp backbeat and I can't help but shake my hips and wanna dance. I'm insecure about the vox as it ended up being the first track to be laid out over all others where usually its recorded in the later half. Anyway, productions crits is what we're looking for: Always Got Jack --> http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11295762 Beats/Guits/Mix-Will Stratton Bass/BGVs-Warren Willingham Lead Guitar-Mark Cline Fiddles-Herb Hartley Vox-Mwah!

Good song, and a real nice vocal performance. Guitar solo is very tasty. The BGV's need to come up and could be thicker. The snare drum doesn't quite sound right to me. Is the reverb gated? Perhaps let it out a little further and eq it so there is a titch more "crack" to it. That's the only thing that I can fault in what is a really well arranged and performed country stomper. Nice work folks. Randy

Big sounding fun tune all. Sexy Mellancamp backbeat. That's perfect. Vox and BGV are dynamite. Bass sounds great and Herb did a fantastic job with the fiddles.

Hey Dena, Herb, Mark, Warren, Will (did I miss anyone?), this is really a superb outting all the way around. Terrificly catchy melody, great groove and just perfect performances. Dena, this must have been a wicked tune to sing, as in- where do I get to breath? But you brought it off. Seeing as you're looking for production comments, please read the following NOT as crits, but just how I'd feel if I were doing production on it (in other words- personal taste... just what I feel)- 1. I think I'd take just a bit of the top edge off Dena's vocal. She sounds great as is, but I think there are points where she might benefit from sounding more 'settled back.' 2. The fiddle is great on the end, but I think what might really sound cool is- Where the band ends now (around 3:01) take an 8 count and then kick the track back in and restart the groove, move the fiddle sollo back a bar or two, and fade the track as the solo gets going. It's just an idea that hit me as I listened. Meanwhile, it was a great listen just as is.

Randy, thanks for the tips. i will forward those to The Juj. He is always so appreciative of the technical types of crits. Grant, thanks for the listen! Herb, I said he was 'in love.' I wasn't kidding! Mark, yeah baby! Merry Christmas! Rhyno, Mellencamp? Totally! Right? Wookie, "apaws." <---I like that! Philz, thank you for your time and prod crits; Will is thankful, I'm sure of it.

This was terrific. Great energy, attitude, and catchy as all get out. And interesting having your voice against that canvas. Warren sounds awesome, and yes, he needs to come up. Mark's lead is deep fried goodness. Sorry to Will, but I hate the mix. There's too much good here that is not getting through. If you want, I'd like to take a crack at it.

Amazing performances by everyone involved, and your vocals are as strong and clear as anyone in the music business. Hats off to Will, Warren, Mark, Herb and you, Dena, absolutely fantastic song! Bob

RR, "Nothing goes down when Jack's not around!" Pima, thanks for the listen James, Thank you (I'm serious-that's really, really super sweet of you to offer) but country isn't really our forte and I'd like to call it. Will will probably make the minor adjustments mentioned above but I'm ready to move on with our other crazies project. Of course, we do have the charity project we could always use a lil help on....hint, hint. Bob, you're so cool, it's awesome.

Another very nice production (maybe a tad heavy on the comp). I really enjoyed the solo vocal and the guitars were outstanding. Warren's shining as ever on this with his tasty bass and soulful vox.

This is really excellent and although i'm no big fan of country music, i did like this one. Fine performances from everyone and i agree with Rick about Warren's tasty bass lines and playing. Your vocal performance is outstanding. tasteful playing also from Mark nd herb. The mix sounded wonderful on my speakers. This sounds just about perfect to my ears. Great work everyone.

Fiery and ferocious, I really like your vocals on this. The song really trucks along and all the playing is great. I agree with James on the mix, there's so much in there that needs showing off I'd love to hear his take on it. But well played and sung. That is a whole bunch of very talented folk going off on all cylinders right there.

Very good. Liked the vocal especially. And the tiltle of the song. As someone mentioned earlier the vocal may be a little hot. This would give the other instruments a little more room.

Love the song, Your vocal performance was top notch. I do agree that the BGV could come up alittle. But I do like the main vox upfront like it is. What did Warren use recording the bass ?? I like it but I listen to this twice, with my sub and without. Sounds great without the sub. With the sub, maybe to much Bottom end. Some stuff seemed to disappear in the mix. Could be my listening environment, I'm in a different room. Great job....... :) Tim

Rick, Blipp, and Bapu, thank you for taking a listen and commenting. The guys appreciate it too. Radio, I want another dog...if only I could train my two already to go in the potty. It would be awesome. Jon, I like your use of the word "cylinders." Tap & Janet, thank you. Chas, I'll let Will know your critique. Lynn, that's a very nice comment, thank you. Scoob & Daryl, vox outfront does seem to be the contemporary style of mixing. Thanks for your time.
