Am I right no pattern brush tool in X1?
I have looked in the manual and can't find it at all. Is it gone? Can anyone else find it? If it is gone this is a true feature that is not in X1 that was in all Sonars.

hmmm. bummer. I wonder if it's still 'in there' somewhere but just inaccessible because no button/keybinding/menu item exists to get to it?

You mean its still in there we just have to find it? Can we bate a trap for it? I have a net if someone will bring the bate. To me this was a neat tool that was unique to Sonar. In the name of consistency they got rid of it. Not a good move.

Can you elaborate on the phrase "In the name of consistency"? Thanks. best regards, mike

I thought there was nothing left out of X1 it was just reimagined and is accessed from somewhere else. Also there are patterns from Project V that are available for use but you can't create a pattern and save it in the P5 format

There was another thread concerning pattern paintbrush and I think the result was that Pattern Paintbrush is not a part of X1. If you would like that kind of feature, I'd suggest that you should have a look at EZplayer Pro from Toontrack. It's kit pieces feature allows you to Drag and Drop specific pieces of a midi groove (IOW, Hihat only, HiHat and Snare, etc.) into your project. You also get to audition the pieces in context before you place them in your project which is where Pattern Paintbrush failed the usability test for me.

Doesn't SONAR X1 have groove clips in a browser somewhere? Groove clips are sort of like a pattern brush. best regards, mike

mike_mccue Can you elaborate on the phrase "In the name of consistency"? Thanks. best regards, mike What I mean is that the tools are the same from view to view. The pattern brush wouldn't fit in that sort of model unless CW adds it as a pattern groove brush for audio. Highly unlikely.

"What I mean is that the tools are the same from view to view." It took me a moment to understand what you mean... yes, thanks... I see what you mean now. I think I looked at the patten brush once... it seemed very cool even if it wasn't something I ever personally used. Bummer. best regards, mike

The pattern brush was removed from X1. Instead, SONAR X1 includes a ton of MIDI patterns that can be dragged/dropped from the Browser. Look in the following Browser Content Locations: MIDI Groove Clips, PTN MIDI Patterns, Session Drummer 3 MIDI Drum Loops. And there are also Step Sequencer Patterns. Scott -- Scott R. Dragging and dropping patterns is not the same thing, this is another retrograde step. I don't use it much but when I do I've always enjoyed it and ended up with something interesting, dragging and dropping patterns (or using the Arp) is not the same as being able to say 'ok, I want a funky high hat, some bossa kick drum and a military snare' and being able to paint in the various separate elements. Maybe they'll add it back 2 versions from now and claim it as a new feature! Child

I used the Pattern Brush once, to find out what it did. I never used it again.

While nowhere near as versatile as the paint pattern tool it is possible to paint a set pattern using the line tool. That draws a pattern but only at the resolution of the 'snap to' setting in the PRV. No where near as good or useful but saves clicking in some steady patterns note by note I suppose.

As everyone is saying the pattern brush is unique in how it works and what it does. A MIDI clip is not the same though a MIDI clip could be used to form the pattern it paints. Besides it is blast to use.
