ok...too many rock concerts for me i think....

here's an interesting link:

I only really hear the mosquito at 14.9kHz (at normal listening volume), but if i boost the volume +6db, i can hear the 19.8kHz

EDIT: or can you hear this one? (mosquito sound layered over some environment)

That's a nifty test... but I think I found a weird glitch. I can hear subharmonics beginning at 19.8kHz. I know they can't be the real tones, because it sounds like they're rising as the freq descends. Does anyone else hear those? (Or did my ears magically regenerate in the last week?)

Interesting stuff about fluoride. I have a story that's possibly related...

I stopped using fluoride toothpaste back in 2003 and started using plain baking soda instead (btw that works great for whitening). At the time I had no major hearing issues. Around 2007 I started using fluoride toothpaste again because I got a bunch of free tubes and was too lazy to buy baking soda. My hearing became noticeably worse in the latter half of 2007.

It's a stretch, but maybe the two are related.

Hey, I found a really interesting article about foods & suppliments that supposedly improve hearing...

It suggests:
take Alpha Lipoic Acid (spinach, potatoes, broccoli)
take vitamin E (wheat germ, fruits, vegetables, nuts)
take B12 (seaweed, spirulina)
quit smoking

I'm on well water... that must be the secret to my ability to hear at all.

those first 4 frequency's are bad. They only last about
10/100ths of a second. Actually they are just a noise spike.
All of the frequency's are at different levels. The higher
ones are two in one. Like an 18K and 22k in the same
sample. ( at least that's what my system tells me).

Then add the fact they say you probably wont hear
the first 4 and it sounds bogus anyway.

Hi Jimmyman, I have not run the audio through anything to test it..... except, our dog is currently on the other side of my lounge sitting on my partners lap, and without either of them knowing what I was doing, my partner noticed the dogs ears prick up and swivel looking for a sound source at the 21.1 khz point.

It was such a novelty I told her what I was doing and ran it a further 3 times, and he looked for the sound source each time at the same point. Then he wandered off to the kitchen for a drink so that was the end of that. I'm hearing something at 19.8 and 18.8 but I cant believe my hearing is this acute and I have to put this down to an inaccurate source or possible, as Spaceduck said, subharmonics

Interesting though

My guess is that the first four have (and my test show
this (if my test are accurate) a high level of broadband
noise. The frequency's are (sort of) in there. So a person
who would not normally hear a true and clean 18k
pure sine wav would still here the noise.

I can tell that something is there when I play
(my own) sine wav at say 18K. But I dismiss calling
actually being able to hear it because it's so much
weaker than say a 10k sine wav to my ears. I
basically say my ears start loosing at about 10k.

Its gradual up to about 13K. then the (loosing slope)
gets very steep. Your dog test proves that something
is there but I can't say because I don't (or can't)
hear that.

Well my hearing at 30Hz was/is exceedingly bad ... the rest is somewhat similar to Space Duck's.

But my 4 KHz (3.5 = baby crying?) range was most sensitive it seemed ... but I took the test in a hurry (to decrease bias)

I did a high frequency test using a sine-wave oscillator.
At 13khz the signal started to fade, so it seems that my hearing might be ok now.

Just bringing back an issue from earlier posts.

It seems that fluoride can be bad for the thyroid.
http://thyroid.about.com/b/2003/11/04/fluoride-and-the-thyroid-explored-with-dr-peatfield.htm

And a low thyroid function (hypothyroidism) can lead to hearing problems.
http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.3109/00016488909107396

I would think that for many people this may not be a problem, but maybe this will be interesting for some of you.

Best, JH
