Am considering Splat: Required internet speed? Download time? File sizes?

At some point I will have to upgrade, but downloading the X3 updates required joyless weekend all-nighters.
So with Splat, first I would like to know:
What internet speed is recommended by Cakewalkl?
What is the largest file, how big is it? (need to estimate how often I might have to restart)
How many files are there in total?

Thanks.

Gotcha. There is also some software called Splat, so I thought it might be a reference to that. Guess I just don't spend enough time on the forum these days. LOL. Cheers!

The new SONAR is broken down into several move separate installers. The good news is moving from X3 to the new SONAR does not require a complete download of everything. If X3 Producer is left on the machine, the packages needed to upgrade to Platinum (Glouchester) are
    • SONAR Platinum 340MB (actually 2 installers which are downloaded at the same time in the Command Center and are in the same line item in the store account) - This is the only thing that must be installed. The rest of the installers are additional plug-ins and content.
    • SONAR Local Documentation - 500MB contains the Help chm, User Reference pdf and a lot of air for some reason.
    • Drum Replacer - 240MB
    • Anderton Collection - 167MB
    • Boz Digital Labs ProChannel Collection - 2MB
    • NYC Showroom Impulses - 50MB
There have been bug fixes to some of the plug-ins, those installers are:
    • Boutique FX Suite - 76MB
    • Engineering FX Suite - 15MB
You will also receive a voucher for XLN Addictive Drums 2 which is good for 3 ADPaks, 3 MIDIPaks and 3 Kit pieces which must be redeemed at the XLN site.

There is no recommended speed. Any reliable connection will do. You can see the installer sizes are much smaller than before. Of course, I omitted the redundant installers.

Thanks, scook, for coming in on this, much appreciated!

Internet is not reliable here, but I have read it is possible to install without CCC.
So: My plan is to find someone to download the files to a thumb drive for me.
But it would be an imposition to expect them to dedicate hours to the task, hence my question.

In summary, they would need to get:
    1. SONAR Platinum 340MB
    2. SONAR Local Documentation - 500GB (Ouch. Might need an external hard-drive instead)
    3. Drum Replacer - 240MB (My main reason for upgrading)

The rest, if I understand it correctly, is optional?
    4. Anderton Collection - 167MB
    5. Boz Digital Labs ProChannel Collection - 2MB
    6. NYC Showroom Impulses - 50MB
    7. Boutique FX Suite - 76MB
    8. Engineering FX Suite - 15MB

I use my own samples in SD3 and won't need Addictive Drums.

My mistake, the local help is 500MB not 500GB. That would be a lot of air.

I would recommend getting the rest of the packages listed, if possible, but they are not absolutely necessary.

Yes, they are actually fairly small, come to think about it.
    Thank you.

Yeah, the new packaging makes the upgrade much smaller. The downside of the new packaging is the advanced install option is no more. There is no option to pick and choose individual components from the installers.

I found the CCC download folder just yesterday. On my ultrabook, I didn't have much space left on the 256GB SSD so I was looking to see what could be deleted. I opted to move the contents of this folder onto one of my NAS devices, thus freeing up many, many GB of much needed space. I hope they're not required for future updates.

There is no need to retain the installers. All updates are cumulative. The location of the download cache can be changed in the C3 settings page path tab. The settings page is accessed by clicking the gear in the upper right on the C3 UI.

If you need to roll back and C3 cannot find the installer in the download cache, it will be downloaded again.

I keep the most recent installer and a couple of the previous ones in the cache for quick roll back, the rest I store offline. I do this because I keep ALL installers used on my PC whether they are available via download or not.

That's fantastic help, Scook! Will change the download cache settings tonight and point to the NAS.
