Amazon offering 2 year protection plan to purchasers of Sonar Platinum for only $10.46
Before you say, "what a ripoff," consider that it includes not just coverage for all product breakdowns and malfunctions but free shipping on all repairs. Since even the boxed version is just a keycard, the shipping alone should be worth that much. Sorry, the above price is only good for the upgrade version. If you are a new purchaser it will cost you $39.94. http://www.amazon.com/Cak...eywords=cakewalk+sonar

If everyone got the protection plan, Cakewalk could spend more time adding new features instead of fixing bugs. Amazon will fix them for us in 2 days if you're a Prime member! Kenn

OK, I know there has been some fun with this, but there might be problem here for either Cakewalk or Amazon. The protection plan is for two years, but the subscription is only for a year. Let's say in month 12, Cakewalk issues a release and it contains a bug. It causes the console to crash every time the fader on track 7 is moved up. Cakewalk develops a fix, and releases it in month 13. Since you didn't renew your subscription, you don't get the update. But you paid Amazon the extra money for the 2-year protection plan. Am I entitled to the update? According to the original post, it is supposed to cover all "product breakdowns and malfunctions", and if I can't move up the fader on Track 7 and I could before, that is definitely a product breakdown and/or malfunction. Do I have a case? Will Amazon have to provide the 'bug fixes' for the second year of the product life cycle?

It just shows how blindly we fork over money to people. They offer a warranty that they cannot honour and charge you for it. I wonder how many people actually paid for a fraudulent warranty?

I think Amazon is more than likely guaranteeing that your install media won't fail. When you install Sonar you agree to EULA license agreement. Sonar grants that license upon your agreement, not Amazon, so it's hard to see any agreement with a retailer is going to override or superceed it. Also a bug is technically not a product breakdown, it is a support issue (as you agreed in the EULA). And Cakewalk are also the sole provider of support.

As it clearly states it's an accident protection plan for musical instruments, there is nothing to cover so:- a) It shouldn't be listed alongside Sonar, so Amazon are idiots. b) Anybody who buys it is also an idiot.

A lot of companies pull a significant revenue stream on protection plans, and will sell them to anyone (who will buy them). Be sure to evaluate these appropriately.
FWIW, I can set up PayPal and offer upgrade protection for $5 and protection to outright buyers $20!! Much cheaper than Amazon, and I can promise to cover absolutely nothing (and can put this in writing too).

Not quite. Godwin's law states that in any internet argument, if it goes on long enough someone will call their opponents Nazis. At which point it can usually be assumed they've run out of actual arguments and are therefore to be regarded as having lost the argument. Godwin's law has a sub-clause which says that Godwin's law does not apply when the person you are arguing with actually is a Nazi or putting forward Nazi ideas. Godwin's law also does not apply when the subject under discussion is Nazis.

Saying that Godwin's law *states* such and such means that it *includes* the following actions..and the following behaviors do ensue from the definition, which you *describe* so beautifully. In other words, why would you assume I was defining the law? This isn't a court room. :D Anyways, my original idea is worth exploring because it's revisited here in the sonar universe quite often: jokes that feed upon themselves ad absurdum until they are no longer funny, the n+1 th post being the un-funniest. This phenomenon needs a name.
