American Audio to Allen & Heath Zed 12fx

I  have been searching around for some good mixing desks with ALT Stereo unfortunately, these are few and far between, obviously, behringer do them but I am staying far my ball park is in the £300 range.

I stumbled across a mixer in the price range of the zed 12fx (Allen & Heath) by the name of American Audio. I have never heard of this manufacturer before and I am thinking that they do mostly DJ stuff, is this a well established company and could I plave them in the same ball park as already named (Alesis, Soundcraft, Mackie?)

I have tried to research their products but no real news. I know that some of you are really knowledgeable with your hardware so hence the question.

They are a low end made in china company, I bought some wireless mikes made by them, They work, but that's about it. I think Sounds Distribution is the wholesaler.
Allen and Heath is your best bet out of the ones you have listed.
Don't buy an Alesis mixer, They do not last.
Stick with brand names. I used to be 100% Yamaha but I now own a Behringer Xeon and I'm very happy after 4 years of hard use it's still 100%.

I looked at the specs of the Allen & Heath and realise that it has alt stereo (which is good) and also the usb! have you used the usb and is it affective?

USB mixers do they do the job?

First I have no clue what alt stereo is?  Do you mean it has alternate stereo outputs.

The Allen and Heath looks like a good mixer. I went to the web site and I do not see any drivers for the USB interface. This can cause problems so I would verify with Cakewalk that this device will be recognized first. It comes bundled with Sonar LE so you would think it should work but there are a lot of posts here regarding issues with any USB device that does not have proper drivers.
It is not a multi channel interface anyhow, you will only have 2x2 recording.
And yes, what do you mean by alt stereo?
I've heard of alternate universes but?

Johnny V its alternative stereo inputs and outs or sub groups/aux sends (for soundcards with in and outs)on some mixing desk. Alot of mixers are using USB but I am not hundred percent sure how good they are.

Its the difference between feedback and no feedback so its worth making sure I dont want to use rca as I am not a believer in that old form of connectivity.

Allen & Heath is the one I will most likely go for as it has usb which I might try if not it has ALT Stereo on it.

Also looking for a good to medium mic AT2035 sontronic stc 2 or se2200a

There's no difference between a good quality RCA jack/cable and a 1/4 " system. Both can use the same cable and I would think the contact is equally as connected. Only concern is that  RCA is unbalanced as are most 1/4" jacks. In a studio with short cable runs this will not cause a problem. You want to use balanced cables when going longer distances , my limit is 6 feet. Most of my cables are only 3' in the studio. And I use a few RCA connections, they are made from Switchcraft ends and Beldon cable. I use them for CD/Tape players as well as the SPDIF connections. I have a few 1/4" to RCA cables that are very handy.
The Tape Input/ output on most mixers seem to still be RCA. I guess this is for Consumer CD, DAT and Tape decks. Studio Mastering tape machines had XLR.

OK I see what you mean by ALt out. The A&H has a send that looks like it can patch the AUX 1 or 2 returns? It looks like it's designed to be used for a Live recording alt mix. In other words you can use the Aux 1 and 2 and send it to that RCA output. Can't read the print as the picture is fuzzy.

Seems like a good little mixer it also has its own soundcard which connects to the compure via usb. (still not sure of it) Cakewalk is supporting their products with a le version of sonar 6 maybe 8.5 now.

The zed r16 has firewire on it and looks to do a pretty decent job of controlling you midi and playback and record.

I think you can patch your aux sends via usb which has two way connection  send/return...

I think the zed series is on my cards I just need to see it for myself so Digital Village will hopefully demo one for me. Those guys can be helpful sometimes.
