American Idol

Did anyone else notice a huge disconnect between what the American public likes and what the producers offered on American Idol?

I mean, here you have 2 kids picked by America as their favorites, pure as the driven snow, singing "normal" cute pop/country tunes. Then, whenever they're not featured it's back to the rap-crap in-yo-face, technodance sex-laden hardhitting overamped autotuned nuerotic junk that the record companies continue to push and want you to believe is great.

Sort of reminds me of the disconnect between America and Washington .

just sayin .

That's one of the big reasons you don't watch it live and fast forward through the "special guests" when necessary.  It looked to me like Tony Bennet was thinking, "I going to fire my agent as soon as I get off stage!"

During some of the numbers we fast forwarded through, one of my kids commented, "That doesn't look appropriate for this TV show."

I did, however, watch James perform with Judas Priest.

+1 Tim.....disconnect is an understatement (on both counts).

You'd think that the record companies would be going out of business with sites like ujam and similar popping up....lol

Haley was still the winner of the Top 3, IMO.

Of the top 13, James or Casey should have won on the grounds they were artists.

I really wasn't thinking about it but yes, you have a point.  It's hard to think that "Judas Priest" was an act with a little integrity on the show.

I was surprised that Lady Gaga seems to be able to sing.  Don't know if she was lip syncing through the whole number other than a segment that was done by either by tape or a second vocalist.  During that dance segment, she didn't move her lips so at least she didn't try to hide that she wasn't singing.  I wish she'd get over trying to one up Madonna in her act.  I could actually like her (as if she would care.)

I thought Haley and the Tony Bennet number was good and she did a great job.  She was my personal pick for AI winner but she wasn't as likeable as the finalists.

I thought Haley and Lauren out sung the guys all the way through the competition and should have been the finalists if performance and skills were the only factor.

FWIW, I didn't like Haley much. Reminded me of every other good bar singer I've seen in my life.
But, Who should of won could be argued till the cows come home. I'm just amazed at who DID win and what that represents. Actually, kind of encouraging and wholesome. But still, just weird how out of touch the producers are. Only thing I can think is that the show was mapped out months in advance with the cookie cutter. Or, they've got some pretty potent drugs keeping them at the edge.

    Geordie is great man!

Having much of my family in Sunderland/South Shields/Newcastle/Blaydon and Winlaton means I can't work out what all the fuss is about.

Lauren Alaina was better and scotty got the young 6 year old kid votes. The talent didn't win, Scotty couldn't hit the high notes on the final song with Tim Mcgraw.......

I didn't see anything unique or stand out from either of the finalists. Good strong voices from both for sure... I think the producers are playing it safe, giving us the lowest common denominator in country pop. As far as the musical acts, I think Marc Anthony had the most legitimate number.

Well, now that the "competition" is over, and the votes have been counted...... now comes the hard part for Scotty. Making this a successful career in the dog eat dog world of modern pop country music.

He still has one more year of high school to finish but will likely do that with tutors while traveling.  So far, in the world of AI, there have only been 2 really successful singers that are selling product. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. The others made a splash, but have either given it up or are into other less visible genre's and gigs.

With time, and the proper management and coaching, both Scotty and Lauren can have comfortable careers in the business.

I wish them both the best, because they survived the whole season to end up in the final two.....not an easy job, considering the talent and luck needed to stay in the top vote getters all season long.

I'm unsure of accuracy, but sales have not been as bad as one thinks, especially when compared to old school sales and artists.

My wife and I thought that sooner or later when Haley did her squat move, an egg was going to come out.

I saw a clip with Lauren and that Piers guy from "America's got talent" show and Lauren did not even make it inside for an audition to AGT. Go figure.

So you haven't seen Gagas Monsters Ball Concert? I think she is far more talented than Madonna ever.
If she stays sober and chooses her company who knows what she'll achieve.

I read somewhere that they're planning to change the Idol voting system because such a majority of the audience is females and they vote for males. That's why girls have a hard time getting forward. Don't know if it's true. I haven't watched a single episode, but my son and his wife are truly fans of the show..
