American to British Translation needed

Why do you call it Football? The game is predominantly used with the hands and the ball is mainly thrown not kicked

    Hey there, Hockey rules!

    Well, it used to.

Nowadays, I guess you're right, it's as lame as, baseball and basketball - mostly a bunch of kids piling up millions before they even accomplish anything and rarely doing more in their career than parading a variety of jerseys for a bunch of teams, indifferently.

See having a history of being such an unruly mob has held y'all back.

You could be as civilized as the Canadians by now if you hadn't made things difficult for yourselves...

And there's that common mistake you often make about cricket again.

You think it's a bona-fide sport and cannot understand it as such.  It's real purpose is for working people to justify taking a weeks sick leave and enjoy spending it with their boss in the beer tent.

We call it football for obvious reasons.

    Because we can.

    Because that's what it's called.

Because kicking is an integral part of the game.

Because for some unknown reason other people get their panties all in a wad over it, and we enjoy that.

Because other people call their game "football" even though they also hit the ball with their heads. (Apparently they sometimes get their heads and feet confused, but I suppose this is understandable in some cases.)

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

    THE LAWS OF CRICKET
    • You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
    • Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out, and when he’s out he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.
    • When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
    • Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
    • When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
    • There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
    • When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

Nothing I see about that is curled.

Isn't that thing they slide down the ice called a STONE..... so it should be called "Stoning" .... but then it might be mistaken for a middle eastern sport.... I'm so confused....

Football has always been called football, back to when they didn't throw or carry it. The name stuck even though how it's played has changed drastically. Plus, the game can't start until someone kicks the ball.

Three reasons. First, we do invite Canadians. Some of them even drive down if it's not too far and they can take a chance on a couple days without health insurance. Second, the vast majority of our players come from Central America, and a few from Japan. Third, most involve at least one of the teams that are based in New England. So there.
