Oh and I kind of think I want a Fender Champ junior for some tube action at some point. Not sure how I'm gonna swing that though.

I think Line 6 are reputedly not a good choice for live - the other salesman kind of wanted to make sure that I knew that "Great for practicing or studio, but not if you want to play live". Pffff, if we ever decide to play live, you can bet that I'll insist on having a wall of Marshalls up there that'll even put Yngwie to shame... ;)

Rain I think Line 6 are reputedly not a good choice for live ... My friend put that one to rest with just a POD Pro and a Peavey Classic 50/50 going to an ADA 2x12 Slantstack (exactly the setup I also used to have - still have the ADA in storage). In Vegas, we hid the speaker behind this: Which is just a fake front (see back side picture below). The soundman asked him to "turn it down" when he was only on 4... LOL! Perception is everything. During the show (an 80's Hair Guitar / Comedy act fronted by Poison's keyboardist, Stu), Stu stopped a song and asked us (playing roadies) to move the stack to a different area of the stage. Of course, as soon as I grabbed the false front, the crowd started laughing. The whole thing folds up into a neat little carry-on package. Here's the "other" side:

Engl's are nice! I wonder what fake heads they're showing... I think it's telling when you're playing something people think is "uncool" yet, when it's hidden behind a head that they've been told to believe IS cool, they'll love the sound. Of course, Eddie playing through a Pig Nose will sound better than me playing through a Bogner Ecstasy... *Sigh*

Are Engl not cool? Though, I would guess that the average concert goer may be disconcerted if he didn't see the traditional wall of Marshall or something as familiar... When we went to see Nine Inch Nails, the guitar player was doing those crazy routines, shoving guitars in front of the amp, throwing it around, etc. But at no time did I hear anything which sounded even remotely close to what you'd hear if you did that at home. It's all about those big Avid Venue consoles and such nowadays. They could be running a clean signal through an amp sim plug-in for all we know... :s

True. Since most things are straight to FOH (especially bass), much of what you see is just window dressing. I think it's great when some artists have fun with it like Geddy Lee and his washing machine backline. Speaking of guitar tossing, just saw this yesterday and was LMAO!

Hmm... Twisted Sister's Eddie Ojeda set up a group of Line 6 Pods for use on the road as they traveled only with their instruments on a tour last year. Seems to me they work just fine for live gigging. The guy at music store was just being snobbish. Heck I use a POD HD500 as part of my live rig. But alas it isn't for the modeling it's for the totally dope effects! And yes I use a Marshall.

I just did some test re-recording a few quick tracks for a song I'm working on. Man, it so awesome to rely on EQ exclusively to mix the actual guitar tracks instead of having to shape them in the first place then only to try and mix then. A low cut, a couple of dips here and there and the guitars just sit in the mix! :P I'm sold.

Well,... I have to ask, with a whopping 1 watt of power output, what kind of tubes does it have in it? None listed on the back.

With problems like that, it needed to go back.

Yup. I've just finished re-tracking all the guitar parts for that song I'm working on w/ the Spider. A/B ing the results between each combination (POD + Impulses, various amp sims, the Blackstar and mix of all of these) and the Spider - night and day. These new tracks just sit in the mix w/o sounding buried or too loud or too thin or too compressed - and all I have done so far is put a hi pass on the guitar bus and a slight cut in the mids. I'm a happy camper.

Crg With problems like that, it needed to go back. I've only ever had one issue with a non-power tube. I had a "balanced triode phase splitter" that was ticking like crazy. LOL.

The line 6 DT 50/25 are some awesome live amps. A little too salty for though unless I started to gig live on a regular basis. The little DT25 combo would make a nice studio or live amp. Those amps communicate with all the HD series boxes and Variax guitars, changing up the tube layouts based on settings.Cool stuff!! Like most of the guitar POD type boxes, you can get a lot from them if you work on making your own settings.

I've read similar comments on the web. I guess it depends on what you mean by "live". Unless we were playing tiny holes w/ virtually no PA... I might as well have been using a POD or a 1 watt amp. It was all wedges.
