Amplitube 4 gets iOS'd
AGAIN IK puts the iOS crowd ahead of the LONG TERM PC CROWD. They are about to release Amplitube 4 for iOS, while us long term PC customers AGAIN get left waiting. IK has great policy of shafting the PC customer now that they have iOS products for sale! Way to go IK!!! http://www.sweetwater.com...litube-4-0-ios-teaser/

I'm sure IKM has a rational business case for that approach. I'm also pretty sure they don't do it just to piss you off :) A more likely scenario is that iOS is quicker to develop because there's only one platform to target. With VST products you have to accommodate a great many combinations: Windows vs. Mac, multiple versions of each's operating systems, multiple software interfaces (VST, AU, AAX) and many different DAW hosts.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Apparently they upgraded the iOS version's sound to the level of AmpliTube 3 on PC and Mac.

Still, gotta hand it to IK that they first made both iOS apps free for a week and now give us a free upgrade to 4.0 which is rather nice.

This thread was reported as "offensive"...and I was told to modify it... I'm sure by IK...
Anyways ...delete it...I won't change it...
I have a right to my opinion...if that's offensive...sorry... but I find a lot of other peoples opinions offensive also..but I don't say that the "can't" express them...

That, and also I think the PC version is a bit more full featured, thus takes longer to develop. Finally there's just the market of who's buying what. I can see the iToy version being extremely popular with young hipster types that are "totally going to start a band" and so on. Any kid that wants to screw around with guitar but doesn't have a ton of money would be attracted to it whereas the VST version takes a lot more commitment/infrastructure to use. Remember this is a thing and they want these peoples' money :)

Never offensive Larry, great to hear all viewpoints and I most often agree with you. I can say I have The iOS apps Amplatube 3 and Amplatube Fender. I also have the iLoud speaker and an iRig stomp if I want to hook to a bigger amp. Not bad for fast portable sound but so limited compared to the PC version. So limited I gave up on the iOS stuff for now and went back to my Stealth pedal and controllers with an old Dell lappy I pimped up for the occasion. I can still use the iLoud with the PC version for unplugged DC or just jamming with someone or use it with my main amp if I need to fill a room. All in all not only the software but also the IK hardware for PC, Stealth pedal, expression pedal and 2 switch controller seems to be made more seriously and sturdy. The iOS interfaces iRig pre, iRig Stomp not so much. The iRig pre not horrible for the price and it works, really hard to get the input volume for the singer with that tiny little plastic knob. With the voice live app it does OK in a pinch. The iRig Stomp, though a bit sturdier looking, a really noisy interface from my experience. I even sent the first one back. Bearable with the noise gate up. The noise is not a problem when I hook directly to the iLoud. Also the App version is far less stable and not quite the same audio quality as the PC version to my ears. In addition to the amp and pedal limitations of iOS version also controller assignment limitations compared to Amp 3. Really a fraction of what the PC version can do. When you consider the cost difference though, not all that surprising that the app is a fraction of the full program. A bargain to some folks that don't want all that, I'm sure. Something tells me that the new Amp 4 app will still be a fraction of the Amp 3 PC version. Hopefully more stable. I do think that in this instance. It's the iOS version that desperately needs some love from IK.

Do iOS users not matter to Larry? I mean they're just as valid as customers. Someone's going to get it first, why not them? And why is it being "shafted" to have to wait a little longer for a new project? I just can't imagine getting on my soapbox over something so unbelievably trivial, but maybe that's just me...

I think IK has a special Department of Pissing Larry Off that comes up with such things. It's not a big deal to me. Someone has to get it first and it makes good business sense to go for the low hanging fruit first since Ios users tend to be far more free with their wallets.

As I mentioned in another post, I am now an avid user of Amplitude IOS, iRig pro, etc. I think they are a nice bang for the buck, and I have used them live and enjoyed the freedom and control I have with them. With the help of Audiobus, and some other apps such as Sample Tank, VocalLive, etc., it's now a viable option for performers and composers, too. I think both solutions (computer and mobile) are important, and I'm guessing that IK Multimedia (which definitely has it's faults, too) is betting their investment on a burgeoning market--this is a business decision that not everyone (e.g. Larry) will be happy with, and I totally understand that position, too. Hopefully the company will use whatever profits they see from the increased investment in IOS, etc., to also add and enhance their PC/MAC products, which I also have used (though not as much anymore--sigh).

Tend to like the remote controller stuff, sometimes combined with an iOS version of the instrument, such as Alchemy and now Synthmaster. I'll put up a thread about that last one.
