would love this to be great. can't get on with Amplitube for some reason, prefer Guitar Rig for cleans and LePou for distortion, but Ampeg is my go to bass sim. Will trial them at some point just to see if I can get that Petrucci sound...

Bias Desktop or Bias FX? That is the question...what you need to know is by design... you can only adjust Mic's in Bias FX if you have Bias Desktop...and there is no upgrade to Bias FX from Bias Desktop...so you have to pay full price for both to be able to use FX to the full extent... And...it's a SCAM...plain and simple...I'm not buying it...as much as I like it...Positive Grid can kiss my furry brown bahooki...and I own Bias Desktop....

The Fender pack is as good as anything I've heard. I'm hoping A4 will add the ability to use 3rd party IR's...I have a ton of those and they seem to sound better sometimes. I also lack Orange and Slash...so I'll be waiting for another big sale too. I'm not really a Mesa Boogie guy, but it would still be nice to have. For now I'm happy with S-Gear.

That picture being a bit tilted makes it look like you took it in the Batcave. Everyone knows Batman played through a Marshall Bluesbreaker.

There's a whole generation of guitarists now who think they know what it's feels and sounds like to play through a fuzz face or crybaby into pretty much every amp Marshall, Fender, Orange and Mesa Boogie ever made. They don't. Not even close.
Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board, ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre. bass daddy, yes, that's a DG Stomp kinda rare these days, i like the tape delay setting on it, and the spring reverb. that's about all i use it for!

My comment wasn't aimed at you or anyone else in particular, sorry if I gave the impression it was.
I've already seen a few forum posts (not here) where someone has gone out and bought the hardware to emulate their chosen emulation setup and found it's not much like the digital "models" at all. Then they proceed to complain that the hardware manufacturers have "obviously" let their standards slip because the real thing "no longer sounds like the vintage emulation".
Personally I find digital emulators incredibly frustrating. Very convenient, for recall of settings in particular, but if I can get a sound out of one I'm happy with on Monday, by Tuesday it sounds and feels "wrong". I can also set up an exact emulation of my current 15 watt gig setup and a few previous setups I had back when 50 or 100 watts was considered "industry standard", from fuzz face right along the chain to a manufacturer authorised model of the amp. Trouble is it doesn't sound or behave like the hardware, as well as the core sound there's an organic quality that's missing.
I accept this may be because I'm not good at setting emulators up, but in the case of things like the fuzz face it can't sound or behave like the real thing because the circuit reacts to the impedance it sees at the guitar and at the pedal output.

the thing about emulators, is.... they can make the RECORDING sound authentic. but they can't make it FEEL right. at least not for a typical rock guitar rig, where you are making the hair on your legs move. this is where the mojo is, when you engage the environment with the sound. the strings of the guitar vibrate on their own, the internal dimensions of the speaker cabinet come into play, the sonic fingerprint of the room becomes important, the impact of the sound gives you butterflies in your gut. i've played some pretty cool emulations, and i think they are really good tools for really good players. but micing up a real rig is the dealio.

I used to feel this way about emulators, but the Fractal Axe FX II has changed my mind. It's not software, and by god it's not cheap, but WOW it's the real deal. Run through a stereo pair of full frequency speakers it will really make you smile. For recording, it's an absolute dream.

I like the conveinence for recording, but I've never heard a fuzzface sim that sounded good at all. If I were to start playing live again (I won't unless I go broke) I would have a tube amp close for sure. I really have came to like the Line 6 HD500X with a DT25. A nice hybrid rig. I would like to try a Fender Supersonic someday.

i don't know.... for LIVE, either the fractal or the Kemper profiler, would probably be my choice. but when it comes to recording the real deal, i'm just looking for some kind of mojo, it seems like going to the source, is the purest way to find it.
