An Autobiography by The Catcher
Hi All, It's been a while but I've been very busy with my head down in the studio... Back in the day (ok, the 90's) I was in a band - we played a fair few gigs and had a good run. Sadly we didn't record much... I met up with the singer again recently so, using my well-honed SONAR skills (mainly courtesy of Scott Garrigus books and multiple readings of Cakewalk Forum threads), we started making some brand new recordings of our old songs. Sounds nice. I like the arrangement. Lead vocals remind me of Sally Oldfield.

Our singer has a mighty powerful voice which is probably a bit less noticeable on Autobiography which is one of our more sedate songs. I hope to share others soon...
How does the quality of the recording sit with the rest of you guys? I hear a lot of music on this forum but not so much in the vein of guitar/pop. At full thrust our band was more along the lines of The Smiths or REM but, of course, with a slightly folky female vocal...

This is a powerful song just waiting to burst out of its cacoon and become a beautiful butterfly. I think if you just cut the reverb by at least half, you would bring her voice into the room and be far more present and intimate. Don't lose the reverb altogether, but let that voice shine. This song is well worth the effort.

Lovin the guitar riff after "palm of your hand" that soars.
THought the female vocal was boosted excessively in the high spectrum? flatten out the Q on it and reducce, bg vox could set back a bit more.
Really good song and enjoyable to listen to

Thanks for your feedback and listens everyone.
Reverb has always been a big thing for me. I love the deliberately swampy wash that some producers go for but I realise it doesn't fit on everything. I tend to over-verb my own vocal but that's more to hide my voice in a cloak as I'm not very confident with it.
The singer on Autobiography however needs no such cloaking so maybe we should tweak it back a bit...

Hi John, Yes - the song is an original. That's my guitar and bass on there and I've also programmed Addictive Drummer which is pretty faithful to the original band performance. We were a straightforward 4-piece band: vocal/guitar/bass/drums + 2 of us on backing vocal. For me, our biggest attractions were always the singer and the songs (but I AM biased of course...) I have a few more songs almost ready to upload so will be on here again soon (with a little less reverb for Lynn and Daryl  ). Thanks for listening,

Other than the reverb on the lead vocal that was quite a pleasant tune, thanks for sharing.

Way good. Backing guitar is perfect in tone and mix placement. Played very well!!! My guess is, the "A" string, or one of the "A"'s that you play, might be just a hair flat, but it doesn't detract. Really sweet arpeggios and the tone is killer. Very "Byrds" ish, love it.
You have some early '90's reverb on the lead vocal, so it's understandable. You'd season that to taste, but you might try it with less, or maybe increase predelay on it. She has a great voice and the harmonies are a treat as well.
Good luck resurrecting the songs, I for one will check 'em out. Good stuff.
