An honest question 2

What if all forum members were forum hosts?

A. There would be no complaints about forum hosts. We are all equal.
B. So many hosts. That would make me feel extra welcome.
C. No discussion neccessary. All threads wiil be locked soon by any forum host.
D. It is a tedious job to judge every post. No one will make any music.
E. I will not post anything. I suffer from atychifobia. (fear of failure)
F. I don't need a forum anyway. Kill the forum and be friends on facebook.
G. All of the above
H. Non of the above

Mooch says the answer is always "C" and, in this case, I can see that as possible.

I had a good and talented friend once who actually had a fear of success. And, ironically, he died before he had any. I'm sure he's not alone.

I had a friend that feared success because he knew if he was successful in acting he would be able to afford more coke and knowing he was the type that would literally snort as much as he could afford....well, i have yet to see his name in lights. i applaud him understanding his limits, but boo him taking the path of failure instead of cleaning up his drug problem. talented guy but ...

I fear success if it would mean having to air my dirty laundry in public. Bitter ex-girlfriends revealing embarrassing secrets etc

I'm right there with the 'fear of success' thing.

I'm really into astrophysics, quantum mechanics, how everything is made... how it all works... that sorta thing. It's the core of me... wanting to understand how things relate and function (part of why music appeals to me beyond personal pleasure).

I thought I discovered something close to 15yrs ago now... still believe in it actually after all this time. I knew that if I was right, that if I could prove my idea right, attention would follow on a large scale. It's now sometimes hard to tell if I still haven't followed through because I fear being wrong or because I fear being right. I've rationalized both sides at this point but the fear of success has been in my mind from the very beginning.

Discovery, new knowledge, it's all cool and stuff... but it's a really tough crowd out there. It seems that whatever you put before the masses, will always result in someone screaming at you, that you have no right, or they'll just fight you because change sucks to them. /shrug

I swear I'm not making this up. Put it down to 'doesn't do well with crowds'. Still, it's the top idea I have atm that I plan on getting to the bottom of some day.

Sure... if 'cheeseburgers' is some sort of euphemism for 'plate tectonics'... sure. ;)

Wow, a third of this crowd is pretty negative!  In fact, there's actually another third that is pretty negative!  Good thing two-thirds are positive around here.

I was into reading about quantum physics when I was 19 or so. Not the nitty gritty equation stuff, but books written for the layman (which were, nonetheless, very meaty reading). It put me into a very weird head space in which I started thinking very deeply about what existence was like on a quantum level. I found myself wondering the streets at 3am in the morning thinking about it, looking at trees and marveling at the particles they were made of etc. I would not be surprised if theoretical physicists go on those long night walks too.

I don't do the equation stuff either... although I won't hesitate to grab a book on the subject that is full of them. There's still some great reading in those books. I wanted to be an astronomer or theoretical physicist when I was finishing high-school but math bored me to tears... among other things. Still love the subject matter thankfully.

And as for gazing at trees and at the world around you, while trying to understand it all? It did help me to understand part of a Nietzsche quote... "And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." You can't attempt to understand it all, to take it all in, openly, honestly, truthfully, without bias... without your own being as part of the equation. Nietzsche basically says... like yourself or not, you will know the truth of yourself. Be prepared for anything.

Too many admins in the system isn't a good thing. I've seen it happen first hand with a company who took any and all volunteers for who wanted to be admin.

It basically all ends in fighting and frustration on who gets to run the forum and what gets flag and what doesn't. It also leads to admin in-fighting. It's just pure chaos.
