An idea for the Smart Tool Toolbar

How about adding four (or more) user programmable buttons to the bottom of the Smart Tools Tool bar?  These buttons would be able to be bound to a list of Smart Toolbar options.  The Preferences Page would be where the user could assign certain Smart Tool characteristics to each button.  After the user has assigned a function the button would allow either an icon or a text lable for that button.  For example, on Button 1 I would assign that to a Volume Envelope and it may display "Volume" or a suitable volume icon.  Button 2 would be a Pan Envelope, Button 3 would be the Mute tool, etc.

The buttons would allow us to create quicker access to certain menu options that may be buried deeper within a drop down menu.  Using "T" and one mouse click, I could create a volume envelope and place the track Edit filter in Automation>Volume mode.  Or I could get to the Mute tool without having to click the current icon and then navigate a drop down window.

The smart tool seems sluggish to me.

    I'm still quicker with keystrokes.

Five buttons would fit down at the bottom.  Heck if they made half height buttons you could fit 10 in the same amount of room practically.

Especially if they ever bring some kind of macros back.

I would go even further and say they should have a "Custom" module for the control bar, where you can make buttons for menu items or even, dare I say it, custom actions.

But hey, the latest update list shows several functions are now key-bindable. I love the idea of key-binding "insert synth".

    From the X1b update

EDIT: Sorry wicked, I see you were referring to the update above - this is redundant.

    • It is now possible to bind “Insert Soft Synth” in the Key Bindings page of the Preferences dialog.
    • It is now possible to bind the “Media”, “Plug-Ins”, and “Synth Rack” tabs of the Browser in the Key Bindings page of the Preferences dialog.
