Ancient Secrets

Many ancient secrets are starting to unfold in our never ending days of government take over and the like. It seems prophecies are starting to unfold, just as they have been lined up to do so. I arranged this piece to reflect these statements of old, and I hope, that in one sense, some joy may come out of this piece for you. As we continue on our journey, I'm praying for better days to come and hope you are too.
Your comments are always welcomed and I hope you will enjoy this piece.

Hey John, this song confuses me a bit.  I'm not getting the sudden changes.  I'm guessing the song's "schizophrenia" is intentional?  Several very different themes overlapping each other.  Maybe that's symbolic?  In particular, the change at around 0:28 seems almost like a production error - maybe something got dragged there unintentionally?  Not sure if you meant it that way or not.

You do rock out with some heavy guitar lead quite a bit in a few different places.  Those parts sound fantastic, and quite different to other things I've heard from you before.  I especially like the big heavy wah-wah guitar leads.

    Hi John,

Well I might not agree with Walt on everything but in this case I think the theme changes seemed to me to be abrupt and seemingly incompatible at times JMHO (please don't hit me for saying that). The mix and musicianship otherwise sounded really good from this end. I used to listen to Mylon Lefever years ago and those bell sounding drum hits/percussion reminded me of his drummer at a live concert back in the early 90's. I like the clean clear bell like sound that those early midi drums made.

The guitars were good on this. Are the guitars loops here? Could have fooled me that they were live if they are. John the themes you have suggested to tie in with your music are relevant IMO but I think in order to put that kind of a theme across you might need a vocalist. If if weren't for the song description I would have had no idea there  was a theme based on end times. Once again just my .0002. And that might not be much.

Re: Ancient Secrets 2013/09/26 19:34:41 (permalink)
Walt, You have guessed right. There are many intellectual and behavioral disturbances going on in this piece, just as prophecy has come down throughout the generations. Just like what is going on in the changing world we live in today. Just look around the world scope of life and all that is going on and you see so much is happening, you can't keep up with it. Well then, so does this piece of music as it reflects all the is going on in this world. But, it shouldn't come as a surprise, as prophecy has let us know that it is to be so. I guess you can say the key word to my statement above and in conjunction with this piece is the very first word- "Many", a deluge of many things unfolding, secret things, deep things, deceptions and the like. Therefore, nothing has to fit together perfect, because it is not a perfect world.

So, yes everything in the piece is symbolic, but to each listener a different symbolism. To each instrumentation within the piece a different delicacy. There could be errors or there could be meaning, I leave that to the listener. The minds eye is a funny thing and we all are unique in character, motivation and many other things. Just like there are good people and there are bad people, but then the choice is really ours to make. I use a lot of loops and sample that I have purchased over many years and I try my best to lay them out on tracks and spend a lot of time trying to get them lined up just righto convey a message, and usually based on a title or theme that I choose, and try to make it all work out based on my minds eye. Your minds eye may feel the piece totally differently and then 50 other people may get even another point of view. If I do it my way, then I own it. If I do something in collaboration, then I own my part and the other collaborators own their parts. Yet, if there are many parts, together they are one.  Hope this helps you to see where I am coming from when I put my pieces together. There is always symbolic interest when doing my pieces and I hope they come together for others as well.  Thanks for listen and your comments, they are always appreciated. I will take another look at this to see if I feel anything different, based on your comments, it could need some additional work.

    Peace and Blessings, John

Starise, Thanks for listening and for your comments. You may want to read my last post to Walt, but I will respond to you as well. The world around us, is it not a bit abrupt and incompatible at times? You say yes!! Well, that is what this piece is reflecting based on ancient secrets or prophecy. The demise and destruction of man in an ever changing world. I am however thankful that the people of this country don't have to deal with what is going on in other countries, because personally I don't think they would know how to deal with it on the scale of extermination, that has  and is going on. I base this on my own wartime experiences. So, this piece of music has many symbolic statements throughout yet in a not to heavy kind of theme. Yes, the guitars are loops and samples that I had to change the tempo so everything would line up together and lay well in the piece. As for the vocalist, that could come or not. You have to remember, I do these pieces with a movie or video that is playing in my head, and so that makes it harder to try and get everything perfect, because anything can be added or taken out, to fit a certain scene. It could be made softer or louder as well. Hope someday to put some of these pieces to video, then everyone will know what I trying to produce, just the basics for something bigger.

    Peace and Blessings, John

Mark, Thanks for listening and for the comment. You do know this is all loops and samples don't you, so my personal musicianship didn't play a role here except for my compositional arrangement skills. But I am glad you enjoyed the piece. I have been working with my guitar though lately and will soon get my keyboards out of the closet. I have some new ideas I'm working on and hope to share in the near future. Thanks again.

Everything fits for me.  I do think in the abstract a lot so maybe it's not supposed to.  Well recorded and nice instruments.  I always miss vocals and have a hard time putting the music to the explanation without them.  The change at 2:03 really caught me off guard.  I liked it a lot.  Very interesting tune, John.  Very nice guitar work and sound.

Warren, Thanks for listening and for the comments, they are much appreciated. Guitars are samples and sorry I didn't have any vocals for you to listen to. Guess I'm going to have to get my guitar out and write a song soon. Seem like some people don't like sample and loop music, but I have a lot of fun putting it all together.

    Hi John,
This song really has a lot of complexity going on.  It has a bit of soundtrack feel to it.  I guess that this would tie into your statement above that your develop your music to what you see in your head.  That would move this song over to where you are creating art!
    Excellent work!

    Hi John.
Every time I go and listen to one of your songs it confuses me.
I have 2828 tracks in my Smart Sound Library (which I use for video) and can hear them throughout your compilations.
Do you play any instrument overlays on the tracks or are you just using Smart Sound tracks.

Using royalty free music to create an "overall piece" is novel way of creating music.
Hats off to you for creativity.

John thanks for your explanation. I'm still at a loss personally to get a specific meaning from a musical piece with no lyric. I get a feeling of  disjointedness. This is what you apparently wanted to do so hats off to you on doing that! This would make a great video track. It seems as if it is qued to one already.

    Frank,

You are right there, kind of like going to socialism. When people talk about their issues today, like loosing their house, savings, retirement or whatever, I ask if they voted for him and if they say yes, I simply ask, "How's that working out for you".

Listening as I write this John, and really enjoying it. I read your explanation of the piece before I listened so I can see where you are coming from. Had I not known what you intended I think I still would get the feeling of chaos you meant to convey.
And the overall production sounds good, you really (to me) put it together nicely.
    Very well done!

This sound great John! I like the changes in this, it has a movie scene feel sound I think, and I mean that as a compliment so I hope you don't take that any other way.

Peace and blessings to you and your family John,
