And now for something completely different

Hollow Sun have just launched a new series of inexpensive Kontakt libraries, "MUSIC LABORATORY MACHINES"
I shelled out my $12 and bought Oscillosine and Organa. At this price the full version of Kontakt is obviously needed.
Oscillosine is weird. There is a wide range of control using the various knobs, the scrip behind this must be quite complex and a whole range of weird and wonderful noises can be created. Some of the parameters are not immediately obvious to me and I am not sure how useful it will be yet, but there is certainly $8 worth of fun here, and possibly a good deal of inspiration.
Organa, an electric reed organ is only $4 and surprisingly good and quite musical, initial doodling indicates it's a good companion for Toontrack's Twisted EZX. I will certainly have a use for this one.

These guys are hilarious. The graphic interface for Broken is worth the $8 by itself.

    from the Broken details page:
watch out for the knob caps - they have tendency to fall off and re-arrange themselves every time you use the thing!

I downloaded a novel freebie recently, a sample set of dumpster sounds: beating on each part of a large dumpster with hammers and crowbars and such. Some interesting sounds in there.

The link above is a direct link to the rar file. Here's the proper page. There are some other oddball sample sets. The guy takes donations if you're so inclined.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks for your kind comments, gents. Glad you like the new Music Laboratory Machines!

Bajan told me about this thread and although I'm not a Cakewalk user, I thought I'd drop in to say 'hello'. It's good to know my stuff is being used with it.

I've signed Bajan up for the HS newsletter (at his request) but if you want to be kept abreast of new developments, it's easy enough to sign up at my site.

There'll be plenty more bonkers MLMs to come with even more radical GUIs and even more retro, pre-synth noises from a past future that never happened.

On that note, I shall bow out as I shouldn't like to contravene this forum's advertising rules on my first post!

Just to say that it's nice to know my endeavours are appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Stephen,

blow away man.  Good products are always welcome as long as you don't drop by everyday with something new and seem to be a shill.  But just a friendly update - we appreciate it.  In the last few years we had one guy complain and he got ... how do they say it in the SHINING ... corrected.

I've got to get the full kontact just for your stuff.  Cheap and unique.

I will look forward to them.  They remind me of playing around with oscillators built from circuits in practical electronics, and old valve radio and a reel to reel tape when I was at school, except your stuff sounds musical

And welcome to the forum. I have always found your posts on Sound on Sound to be informative, particularly with regard to vintage equipment.

+1 all the way.  The demo track is absolutely delightful (and using Genesis/Tony Banks for demo purposes is never a bad idea).  I shall definitely parting with 25 bucks for this little treat.

Not been here recently but have a few new Music Laboratory Machines which some might find interesting...

Latest one is Novalite  for Kontakt 4.2.3...

A 'lite' version of our award winning Novachord library, this features just the raw Novachord waveform but comes with two 'resonators', a 'Mellow' (lowpass) filter, an AHDSR envelope and a uniquely implemented LFO to recreate the antiquated tones of this 1939 behemoth.

    But there's a twist ...

You can have up to four layers and each one can be individually mixed, panned, tuned, detuned, filtered and shaped to create sounds unimaginable on the original instrument as well as surprisingly authentic tones and textures that will set your teeth on edge!

    DETAILS

    AUDIO DEMO

    SMOOTH NOVA

It is available now for £10.

Other MLMs have also been released recently. More details HERE

    Cheers,

    Stephen

NOTE : The MLMs WILL work with the Kontakt Player but only in 'demo' mode and the session will be time limited.

    Another new MLM...

    MODULAR TOOLKIT

Pride of place in the Music Lab here at HS Towers is the Synthesizers.com modular synth system...

With three VCOs, a multi-mode filter, a creamy transistor ladder filter, two VCAs, two envelope generators, a noise source, clipper, signal processor and rectifier, she makes a glorious noise and being true analogue, all sorts of non-linearities exist in the sounds that make them curiously organic with depth, richness and movement.

We have taken some choice sounds from her for the Modular Toolkit MLM...

All manner of drones, sweeps, swoops, blips, bleeps, bloops, noise 'uplifters' and swooshes, shrieking FM and ring mod FX, etc., and complex sounds which the modular generated on its own, have been laid out across the keyboard so you can have this 'toolkit' of sounds at your finger tips to use in almost any modern musical genre. Furthermore, each sound is individually editable from tuning, level, pan, pitch mod, filter, shaping and bit crushing through to individual sample start editing complete with a waveform display.

The sounds then feed a comprehensive multi-FX comprising chorus, phase shifter, flanger, echo and convolved reverb featuring a wide range of impulses from halls and room to plates and spring reverbs and lush ambiences.

    DEMO

    DETAILS

The Modular Toolkit is available now for £5

    Cheers,

    Stephen

Got this today and have just been playing with it - I think it's fabulous - but of course it does cost an enormous 5 pounds!!! I like this the best of the Laboratory machines I think - great stuff
This is a good concept from Hollow Sun  -- interesting products at real value for money prices
