Andante in C (aka Tales of the Riverbank) by Mauro Giuliani arr Hackett
OK so I thought I'd keep the classical guitar vibe going and post my attempt at an-all time favourite of mine and one that is (just) within my playing capability. There's more than a few dropped notes on here (I will catch them one day and re-record it when I have) but therein lie the joys of one-take recording. It would sound a lot better on a nylon - I know right - but as I don't have one handy you'll have to make do with a steel strung instead. Any fellow Brits of a certain age may well remember this as the TV theme to a certain animated children's classic from the 1960s. There are a number of arrangements for this piece, this particular one is arranged by Steve Hackett of ex-Genesis fame and it is my preferred version; for anyone who fancies having a punt at this - you can get the dots here. Anyway - enjoy https://soundcloud.com/andyb01/andante-in-c-updated

Well now you have and you have the dots so get to it! If you look at the sleeve notes on SoundCloud you'll find links to a YouTube tutorial I did in three parts (apologies for the sound quality on Pt 1 - the mix is awful but 2 and 3 are better). Would love to hear your version played on a decent classical instrument. I've found the dots to Lagrima btw and it's now on my 'to do' list.

Giuliani has this tonic-dominant-tonic thing, even in his sonatas. Trey classicille. 😅

Very pretty finger style. You make it sound easier than it is. John B.

Cheers for the comments Tom and John. I listen to you playing piano Tom and I feel the same way in terms of an appreciation of technical ability.
This is considered to be a relatively easy piece (how I dream of being able to play Cavatina) but despite that it still took me around three months of regular practice before I could nail it.
Most people play the first movement incorrectly using open strings in the first position (as I used to). When you realise these notes should actually be fretted higher up the neck, everything else falls into place. That said there are a few challenging transitions in there.

Andy, do you mean the *seis cavatine* or are you saying more broadly *the deerhunter theme, cavatina* neither are challenging. I'd like you to do sonatas in c op 15. You have to play it on nylon or gut😍

Oh man, now I'm getting requests. 🙈 I meant the theme from The Deerhunter, all those barré positions and grace notes - believe me I've tried a few times and never got past the first few bars. I'll listen out for Sonata in C, that's another Giuliani piece am I right? I can't do nylon, wifey says I'm only allowed one guitar and she won't be convinced that steel and gut are different instruments. 😂 It's weird, I've been playing guitar over forty years and have never owned a nylon strung. Quite fancy a Taylor 814 CE-N - I can dream eh...

Cheers glad you enjoyed it. Berceuse from the Dolly Suite by Faure might bring back some memories too but thats a duet for two guitars or pianos - Google it.

I play an arrangement of the berceuse with a flautist yes op 15 Giuliani. It's a classic.
