Angina

Angina. It's such an innocuous-sounding word. Sounds a little like "vagina". Those of you who've experienced both can testify they're at opposite ends of the pleasure spectrum.

Morphine. Another word with a lot of baggage. But it is truly Mother Nature's gift to mankind. So thankful it exists.

The good news is they couldn't find anything wrong with my heart this time. The doctor told me my overnight stay at the hospital was just "an expensive nap". The real heart attack will probably accompany the ER bill. As if I wasn't broke enough already. Fortunately, the exercise machine is paid for, so I'll be back on it every day.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Heart issues are scary things.  Just had lunch with an old friend and former boss man, about 2 weeks ago.  He's been having heart related issues..... has had a few stents and they mostly didn't work for long.... now, he has to go back to have some more tests done...  Keeping his fingers crossed.   He can't do much in the way of manual labor.... walking more than a short distance tires him easily.... sweeping his shop out that morning tired him.... yeah, heart issues are not cool.

Positive thoughts are why I come here. Thank you all for continuing to provide them as you have for many years. Not enough positive thoughts have been coming down the pike lately. I've been called Gestapo for volunteering to be a forum host. I can easily laugh that off, but it's a little troubling that negativity has crept into even my last happy place. And now they're autotuning Aretha Franklin. {Insert George Carlin's 7 words you can't say on television here}.

My 10-year-old granddaughter will be visiting me today. Everything will be fine then. Happy thoughts.

All my best for you, I've been on death's doorstep a number of times (ER 3X) in the past two years, and it's a strengthening experience, Dave. My wife worked (research) in Cardiology here at UW-Madison for many years and the work they do and how far they've come is absolutely amazing! You'll always be in good hands with Cardiology. My heart decided to start stopping (I'm in excellent shape) over the summer and the good news when I broke my hip, is that it stopped in ER, so the docs figured out what was wrong. My stay in the Cardiology ward was also a vacation but those guys (and gals) are amazing people :) You are in my prayers now that I am aware. It's been a down time but I just wrote my first song in over two years (as opposed to weekly) and I am soaring on heaven's clouds. We're still doing what we are meant to do, that will never stop! I'm deeply indebted for the work you do here in the forums.

    Dave,

Should the docs tell you that you need to change your dietary habits, don't hesitate to ask for advice.  I've been eating a 99% vegan diet for several years, I love to cook (and don't suck at it, it I may be immodest), and I know all the good cookbooks that would get you started on the right foot (by that I mean, you'd actually enjoy your meals in addition to not having the food content end up sticking to the insides of your arteries).

    Best wishes.

I've been reading and starting some different eating habits. The first book that really got my attention is one called Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter. It deals not only with neurology and food, gluten in particular, but also cardio and all kinds of inflammations. It is a VERY interesting read. I recommend it.

Fortunately, the exercise machine is paid for, so I'll be back on it every day.

better make sure that the exercise machine is not the THING causing the angina.
    what they call 'stable angina'.

Yeh, I did a stress test. But first, they tried 7 times before getting an IV installed, gave me morphine to offset the wounds they'd inflicted. Then they kept me awake all night, drawing blood every hour or so. All the while I was not allowed anything to eat until after the stress test. That didn't happen until 2:00 PM, by which time I'd been a whole day without eating, and no sleep. I was hungry, my blood sugar was at 70 and the morphine had worn off.

Just the condition you want to be in when you step onto a treadmill. They cranked that machine up until I wasn't walking anymore, but running. After 20 minutes I still hadn't raised by heart rate high enough for the test. 133 BPM was the target, 120 BPM was all I could manage. Is it just a coincidence that's also the default tempo when you open a new SONAR project?
