Another 100 Year Flood?
Water's up to the door. People on live TV being swept away. 11" already and it's just beginning. My Sister is evacuated again by boat. Records broken again in the same year. Disaster declared! again

Sounds more like a Few Months Flood. Or does this mean the next one will be in 200 years to make the average work? At least now if you find yourself floating down the river you can yell for help. Of course, some of the slower types might think you're a duck and shoot at ya, so maybe you should just hide in the attic?

Stay safe Bill. The little town nearby was flooded last December 30th and some of the shops in the main street have still not reopened. I went into a couple of places talking to workmen when the waters receded, and the stench was enough to knock you out.

Bill, I havn't lived in Baton Rouge for 7 years and I liked the town and area quite a bit. Good music there and in 'Nawlins. But I must confess that I don't miss the weather at all- Hurricane Gustav, frequent torrential rains with floods, and smothering summer heat & humidity. Having said that, it "only" got up to 106, here today. But it's dry heat, or so I tell myself. In any case, Stay safe, Bert

over the next 10 years or so, all the weather guessers will be redefining '100 year floods' the old records just don't count anymore, and as new weather patterns begin to form, new rules will have to be observed.

Bill's last comment was "I can't believe the power hasn't gone out". Then silence. There are some things you just don't say to tempt fate, like "At least it can't get any worse".

Hopefully it's nothing more than a loss of power. I'm pretty sure my CH narrative was similar during Hurricane Sandy - my last message was something like "holy crap the power station up the road from me has just exploded" and then nobody heard from me in a week.

Ya, Billy Boy 'o' the Bayou... you best let us know you're alright. The really shizzy part is (if Bill's okay which I just have a feeling in my gut he is) that he JUST got settled in to that new place and it seemed like things were going all happy and good. Hopefully he just got evacuated as a precaution, is safe with family and his new pad is dry and clean so he can just move right back in, plop himself down and get back to telling us all about the wonders of Am. *mindbeam of positivity*

my house is on piers, 4 inches of water in my home. Not being in a flood zone I had no flood insurance, Allstate did not help. So far I have pulled the carpet and padding out, and am removing baseboards and cutting out the affected celotex(the house was built in the 50s so beaded boards for walls, hardwood floors and a cypress sub floor). I have two rooms left to cut out. My three sheds suffered damage to the contents, the wash shed lost the water heater, wash machine and dryer plus a generator and chain saw, . I am attempting to restore my riding lawnmower, weed eater, bush hog,. The air compressors, welding machine and hand power tools are gone. My practice studio I lost my 1930s Hammond AV, 76 Fender Rhodes, A rack full of power amps and processors, mixer board, sub woofers, and other things . Did get my truck out ok and drove to a shelter, a brand new ATV is in the shop being looked at. I am back at work today but just going through the motions. In my 64 years I NEVER saw the water, carnage and destruction in my area and where Bill Lives.

NOOOOOOO!!!! But at least you're okay. Get some of that mold eating enzyme and spray any exposed studs/surfaces before sealing it all up again. As for the gear... maybe it's salvageable. Pop it open, get in there with some toothbrushes, rags, sponges, whatever and let it all air out for as long as it takes. If it wasn't plugged in/turned on when it got hit it might all be fine or just need to have some wiring replaced. People say toss a rice into things like that to soak up moisture but a better (and less messy) bet is to try to find a pile of those little silica packages they toss in clothes pockets, electronics packaging, pills, etc, and let them do their thing. Glad you're okay. Now where the FRACK is Bill?!
