Sounds good man. The composition is great. It may be a little stiff though.

Ken, The lead guitar playing is really good. Recording sounds good. The drum loop seemed too canned. What synth are use using for piano? Nice chord progression.

ORIGINAL: tdye Ken, The lead guitar playing is really good. Recording sounds good. The drum loop seemed too canned. What synth are use using for piano? Nice chord progression. Tom, Thanks for listening! The piano in this track is an E-MU Sounds of the ZR, perfect piano. I have a Proteus 2000 based B-3 module that I added the zr sounds to. I'm not a piano player, obviously, and I had a little trouble with Midi timing, I think. I agree about the drums- I actually programmed the loop myself, which was a learning experience (as well as all the other technical aspects). I need to figure out how to vary drums and do fills. Guitar is my real instrument. Thanks again. Ken

Ken, Try using drum loops instead of midi drums, I always prefer recorded drums over midi drums even if they are canned. Overall well done, nice ballance between instruments. Not bad on the keys either. Cheers.

Ken, Nice melody and motif in the strings and electric guitar. It has that 'going on a journey' kind of feel that can make for some really great music. Nice work, welcome to the forum!

Ken, Nice start for your first post. I like your guitar playing and the keys are good. Drums are hard to program. I've used EZDrummer with a lot of success. They have a humanizing algorhythm that can take even your own midi and make it sound more realistic. They have tons of loops too. The key is variation. As for the piano, variation helps there too. Quantizing or writing exactly on meter can make it sound stiff. I usually go in a make tiny adjustment to parts to making it more realistic. You can also quantize with random off sets on start times that will make it more realistic as well. The best part is that you have a very good sense of arrangement, play the guitar well and can write. Now the fun begins. Scott

Are you eq'ing this at all? The drums in the beginning sound muddy for some reason? And as the song progresses, it sounds like they’re being pushed farther back in the mix? They’re not punching through. Maybe because you’re squeezing the master? To hard? Or vice versa? It’s tough to say, but Soundclick low-fi doesn’t help either, I’m sure it would sound better on a hi-fi play. and as the song progresses, it sounds like there's a lot going on sonically within the same spectra. Like the piano, the synth piano, and rhythm guitar, all sound like they're competing for the same space in my head? (along with the voices of course...) Something EQ and panning could help quite a bit with it.

Thanks all - I appreciate all of the comments. Robby, I'm with you - I think that the piano and the acoustic guitar combine to be mushy. I just got a new mic CAD m177 and I'm going to try to replace the current line in acoustic with a better miced guitar. I got a lot of ring in the current track. As to the drums, - I was pretty excited to be able to get the midi drums to sound the way they do - as I started from no knowledge. I'm going to investigate loops more. Budget is spent, though. Ken

This sounds great, especially for a first post! Do you have Session Drummer 2 with your program? It would help with the variations and fills, etc. Besides that, I can't really offer any help because I'm so new to this myself.

Janet, Thank you very much! Actually, I'm using Session Drummer 2 on this. I used the ns_kit samples. Ken

Seems to me there are a good amount of fills available there. And you can edit them too, to get exactly what you want. Anyway, if you got it to work at all on your first post, you're light-years ahead of me! lol. Keep up the great work!
