Another Daybreak
I know that at least two other forum members have posted songs here named Daybreak within the last year or so. Consequently I've called this Another Daybreak. Originally I considered Aurora or Dawn, but I can just hear Stephanie: "Who's Aurora?" As it was she wondered who it was about until I reminded her that I write (mostly) fiction. She made it clear that she would let it pass this time, but in the future I'm to have no other women, not even fictional ones. LOL A year or so ago, several forum members offered me keyboard parts for this, and I thank them all for their contributions and for taking the time to humor me. In any event, here it is: Rhodes piano, flute and strings by Bill Davies Guitars, bass, vocal and mix by Mark Not Mastered. the link: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10982893 Thanks for listening, people.

Hey, Mark, How are you, buddy? It sure sounds like you're doing great! Wow, this is one really terrific and very "classy" production. You and Bill both did an amazing job on this. The clean guitar tone sits very nicely with the Rhodes, your vocals were outstanding, and the strings and flute were the icing on the cake. Great lyrics, and the solo at the end was excellent. Great collab, guys! Bob

This is great Mark, one of your best for sure. The descending melody and Bill's flute give it a 'Traffic' feel, really nice. Cool guitar work on this too, you were feeling it! One nit if I may - I might change the hi-hat to half time on a ride at the start, then double it up later.

Mark, thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. Bob, good to hear from you, bro. Glad you liked the solo, the whole thing is a bit of a departure from my usual blues/rock thing, and I had to learn to think a little differently. Thanks, pal. James, same to you, I'm glad you liked the guitar work. Actually one of the people who offered me keyboard parts also commented on the high hat doing triplets, and it's a valid criticism. I just thought I'd try it out for a change. Thanks for the feedback, fellas.

Slow forum, or the crowd's got tougher Mark, I'm not sure which. I was amazed to see one of Frank Tanton's gem's almost slipping off page one yesterday without a single comment.

Hey, I've been thrown out of better joints than this...... In fact it reminds me of a time we set up to play a gig in a cowboy bar. While we're setting up, some cowboy at the bar says loud enough for everybody to hear: "I sure hope these guys don't play rock n roll!" Just before the first tune, I stepped up to the mic: "Good evening, we're The Gillis Brothers, and we play Rock and Roll, baby!" The cowboys gave us a dirty look, but ended up being very gracious about it and enjoying our music.

Hi Mark, It sounds good except I think the ride cymbol is a bit too loud. Guitar is super sweet.

Hello Mark, nice song though I personally thought it sounded a little thin, this could just be me. As James and No How noted the ride is a little to forward. Thanks for sharing.

Mark, Nice jazzy little tune there. I enjoyed the listen. I will agree with Wookie that it sound a little thin. Meaning an absence of low and mid-low tones, like they have been EQ'd out. Nice lead work on the outro.

Rick and Wookie, thanks for listening. fellas. On the several different systems I've listened to this song on, I don't hear that the ride is so up front, but: it is well documented that my hearing drops off a bit over 4k, and the constant problem of tinnitus that also interferes. Consequently, I'm glad to get your feedback on that because I simply don't hear it.

I like where this is headed. For me I feel the vocal are bit to articulated. I would like to hear the words a little more loose.

Hey Mark, some unusual panning in this one, kinda reverse of the norm. I like. Think the vocals are just tad loud maybe 2db or so. Very cool tune, probably my favorite of yours. Is there a kick in there? If so, I can't hear it. Very colorful melodies on both guitar and vocals. Good stuff man!

Thanks, Ed. I consider it a minor triumph that I didn't mumble or stutter once while recording. A rare moment in the annals of home recording. And thanks to you too, Ed. You know, I tried half a dozen mixes, ran them through my nearfield monitors, the surround system in the living room, the cheap under-the-counter cd player in the kitchen, the pretty decent Blaupunkt in my truck. The vocal was a little too loud in on one system, not so much on others. I finally settled on one in which it was quieter, and will post it soon. Thanks for the comments.

I remember this one. Wow--great additions by Bill! :) I'm listening on my laptop and the vox seem a tiny bit loud here too, but it IS nice to hear them clearly, so, well, I'm not sure. Anyway, I still like this one. :)
