Another Lost Tool

What is it called? the adjustable progress bar below the transport controls...

It used to move 1 measure when you clicked before or after it's handle (tho never worked well near the beginning of a piece)...

Now it occasionally will accept a first click and do that only to be frustrating and not respond after that... It will move when dragged but that is sooo inaccurate!

That is called the Navigator. It can be shown/hidden by pressing Alt+N. The upper left corner of the viewing rectangle is positioned to wherever you left-click in the Navigator. There are also a number of options available by right-clicking in the Navigator pane.

How about this tool... in PRV, you could adjust the velocity level in the velocity pane by just using the mouse and drawing (holding the right button down)...

Now, I have to have my smart tool selected and I have to do this at the note image (only when the smart velocity tool shows up).  If I want to edit a bunch of velocities (like when I change SNARE samples), this is a royal PITA.

Is there a way to edit velocities in PRV the old fashion way?

    Any help is appreciated,

Yes, you can edit velocities in the controller pane by holding Alt while using the Smart tool. Just drag your mouse over the velocity lines to change their values (heights).

It works with the smart tool and ALT, but either you must have the notes of which you want to edit the velocity selected, or you have to have NO note selected (and there are sometimes not visible). So the best to be sure is to click before in an empty place with the selection tooL

Yay! Since hot tips are being thrown around: Is there and easy way to move notes vertically in the PRV while being locked horizontally? Like the way you would when the draw tool would turn into a vertical up-and-down arrow when aiming at the middle of notes.
    Also: Is drag quantize gone?

Thanks, I tried that and it works fine with regular notes but I should've said my problem relates to drum notes. It seems you have to click them dead center for it to work, which is hard cause they're tiny!

    Hi Scott...

Thanks but no... I'm not speaking of the navigator... On the control bar in the transport module. At the bottom is a slider.... I've used it foever and it's difficulty at the beginning of pieces was an inability due to windows itself (according to the tech I spoke with a long while back)...

    But thanks for trying...

    Hi Keni,

Oh, okay... yeah, you can't click on either side of the slider. That would be nice. In the meantime, you can use key shortcuts instead. Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDn to move the Now Time back and forth one measure at a time.

Mine moves in one measure snaps at a time when dragged. If you find it a little too sensitive hold the shift key while dragging.

Select all the notes and use the Length dialog (process|Length) and make them all longer... they should still be one shots so the length/duration doesn't matter...

Can you make the little triangular drum map notes longer? Cause I do need the drum maps and I cannot consistently move notes vertically with the 'smart' tool. I was editing some midi drum recordings last night and I was pulling my hair out! Often I want to hear what a certain drumkit piece sounds like with another sample and with pre-X1 SONAR I used the 'draw' tool and simply selected all the notes of, say, the high-hat and dragged the notes up and down. Now I have to either count the steps to the desired trigger note and use the transpose function, or nudge up/down (often a LOT of key presses).
Unless there's something I'm missing I really wish for Cake to add the old PRV 'draw' tool to the tool options in a future update. I miss that one so much right now, also cause I'd rather not hold the ALT key while inputting notes.

Looks to me that a lot of the MIDI improvements that came with SONAR 7 are now gone! I really loved the endlessly configurable PRV tools, drag quantize and even the event microscope!

Or are they all in there somewhere?

    Sven

MIDI microscope is still there. In the PRV mode look under the view menu, there's an option there to turn it on. Configuration options for it are in Preferences->Customisation->Editing you'll need the advanced view checked to see that choice.

I haven't found a way to configure the tools yet, but..... I do find that all the tools do what I want them to do somewhere and they are very easy to access. Press T or Middle mouse click to bring up the HUD to 'see' the tools to choose from or quicker for me is the associated F key with each tool. Most of them cycle through several 'modes' and once you get to know what does what I find them very quick and easy to use. YMMV

I think I've figured the different tools out, and I have no problem selecting them quickly, but none of them have the functionality of the old 'draw' tool as far as I can see.

I like using 'nudge' for this. On the number keypad, use '8' to nudge notes up and '2' to nudge notes down.

Yeah, that's the way I'm doing it for the time being, but for example going from midi note 16 to midi note 77 is a LOT of key tapping...

Yeah, the Event Inspector is one of the least talked about but most powerful features in SONAR. Check out this video for details on how it works...
