Another Q - out of sync issue...

Hello

I have read some threads that people tend to have some issues with Sonar getting out of sync from time to time. I have got this problem myself, and I find it very frustrating. There seem to be a problems with latency offset or similar, and I tried a few things. I have no idea what to do now...

My setup:
Sonar X1d Producer Expanded
Win 7 x64
Dual Core 2.53 hz
6 Gb RAM
Audiocard: Motu Ultralite MK3 w. Firewire

I have a project with a short drum loop (sample)
2 midi basslines from 2 VST synths
Session Drummer 3 w one kickdrum only (midi)

After playing 8 bars (looping) it's getting out of sync, and I wondering why. It hasn't done this on previous projects.

What I have tried...
- Rebooted computer
- tried both ASIO and WDM drivers
- tried to check/uncheck "Use ASIO reported latency" under Sync and Caching in Preferences
- tried to set a manual value under Sync and Caching (under Record Latency Adjustment - not sure if it was right though)
- tried to set the clock source both as Internal and on Audio

However, what I have realized is that when clicking the "Metronome during playback" button the project play in sync again.

Have anyone got an idea for a solution to this problem. I hate it!!

Thanks
E

Actually yesterday I ran into this, I had click on for the longest time on a Film cue, then once I had enough stuff down to carry the rhythm I shut the click off via the "metronome during playback". Then I laid some drums down right in the pocket, and upon playback the drums were playing ahead. The midi was recorded earlier than it should have been. You might try the PDC button or FX bypass button, but it sounds to me like we might have to leave the Metro on just muted.

Ok, back to my cue today and same issue. (Yesterday It didn't start acting up until I had toggled the Metronome on Rec off and then back on.) Tried all my usual stuff I suggested above. Nothing helped. I did some digging in the Aud ini file and found a setting that helped. "Enable Device Output Latency Compensation"-- Never touched it before. I switched it to "False". And it Helped. Try it and let me know if it helps/fixes for you too.

This fix definitely worked for me. Just change "Enable Device Output Latency Compensation" to false in the Audio ini file. I was able to reproduce the problem on a fresh project with a different software library. The midi was being overcompensated and showed up early on the graph. You can use a microphone to record your live playing then your recorded midi track and definitely hear Sonar has moved it earlier. I had customer support log it and another reproducible bug yesterday.

    Sorry for late reply Blogman.

I haven't tried this yet. Will do, but it seem to only be related to one song. Will keep you posted:)
    Thanks!
