Another Sonar notation/staff question

 Hi,

When changing the pitch of a note up or down in staff view, is there a way to restrict or prevent the HORIZONTAL movement of the note.

Quite often, when editing a note's pitch, a very, very slight mouse move left or right will change the note's time value, thus making a mess of the other notes in the bar.

I've tried dragging a note's pitch up or down with modifier keys, but nothing seems to work.

Is what I'm trying to do possible in Sonar's staff view, or is this for a future feature request?

Thanks.

Usually, in other views, pressing Shift while dragging maintains the time position. Haven't tried in staff view, though.

Moving any note up or down is painful in staff view.  Kalle's suggestion is a good one but does not work.  I find that moving quarter notes up or down in staff view is OK,  but eighth notes or smaller get drawn to the beat.  I might have some setting that i can't find,  but i can't get moving notes up or down in staff view to work anywhere near exceptable.

Right click on a note and change the note in "properties" works well.

The best way I have found....under staff view open up a piano roll view. And edit the notes there.  You can get the 2 views to line up quickly by hitting the space bar quickly twice (you start the sequence for a moment)

This is where Screensets can be a big help.  Check out FastBikerBoy and his video tutorial on this.

I realized last night while working on staff view that if I use the "draw" tool to move notes up or down, it is less prone to horizontal deviations, unlike when I used the "select" tool previously.

You still have to be careful that you don't move the note too much to the left or right when moving it up or down.

The right click "properties" is a  workaround...but is not as fast as just dragging the note up or down...so using the "draw" tool is better than the "select" tool when doing this type of edits.

I've been using the Event Inspector (on the toolbar) to adjust midi pitch. Toolbar is always available even when Staff View is open.

Just select your note to edit in Staff . . . go to Event Inspector "pitch" and hit (+) or (-) keys to adjust.
(Also the    [   or  ]  keys adjust 1 octave up/down at a time)

I find this method is a lot less mouse clicks than the "right mouse properties" trick, but I do prefer my keyboard commands better than the mouse, when possible.
